Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related discipline is required.
  • Solid knowledge of accounting principles and practices is required.
  • Thorough understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, Governmental Accounting Standards, and Financial Accounting Standards Board pronouncements is required.
  • Knowledge of financial compliance, including statutory and regulatory requirements for nonprofit organizations, is required.
  • Communication skills capable of presenting accounting and financial requirements are required.

Responsibilities
  • Maintain records of financial transactions by posting and verifying them.
  • Define bookkeeping policies and procedures.
  • Develop systems to account for financial transactions by establishing a chart of accounts.
  • Reconcile entries.
  • Maintain a balanced general ledger.
  • Prepare a trial balance for the accountants.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local legal requirements.
  • Assist accountants in preparing financial statements and closing the books.
  • Run payroll and make payments.
  • Perform reconciliations and maintain accurate financial data.
  • Support compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and requirements set forth by the charter authorizer, federal and state governments, lenders, and philanthropic institutions.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Previous bookkeeping experience is preferred.
  • Non-profit sector experience is preferred.
  • Experience in K-12 education is preferred.
