Requirements
  • A Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, English, Science Writing, Computer Science, or a related field is required.
  • A minimum of 3 to 5 years of professional experience in science writing, technology journalism, or strategic communications is required.
  • The ability to translate advanced technical, mathematical, or scientific concepts into compelling narrative prose accessible to lay readers is required.

  • Demonstrated experience managing professional websites, social media accounts, and digital email marketing platforms is required.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and consultative skills are required, with a track record of building trusted relationships with academic researchers, administrative staff, and media professionals.
  • Exceptional organizational skills are required, with the ability to manage multiple complex communications projects simultaneously under tight deadlines.
Responsibilities
  • Develop and execute narrative strategies that highlight the research, educational programs, and daily activities of faculty, students, and staff throughout the university.
  • Translate complex scientific and technical research into accessible articles, profiles, and media content for a general audience.
  • Communicate a unified narrative about Georgetown's diverse research, teaching, and service activities in the artificial intelligence space.
  • Manage the university's digital artificial intelligence presence, including website updates, social media campaigns, and monthly newsletters.
  • Work alongside the university's media relations team to pitch research and practice developments to national journalists and prepare faculty for public and policy briefings.
  • Develop and implement communications strategies for major conferences, speaker series, and promotional events.
  • Collaborate with faculty and students to identify and highlight compelling, human-centric stories about artificial intelligence initiatives.
  • Ensure all communications materials are accurate, stylistically consistent, and aligned with the university's brand guidelines.
  • Promote the ethical use of generative artificial intelligence tools within the Office of Strategic Communications through training and workflow integration.
Desired Qualifications
  • Prior experience working within an academic research environment, federal laboratory, or technology-policy think tank.
  • A Master's degree in Science Writing, Technology Policy, or a related field.
  • Foundational training or coursework in computational data science, artificial intelligence, machine learning, or cognitive neuroscience.
  • Practical experience with graphic design and presentation software such as Adobe Creative Suite, Figma, Canva, or PowerPoint to create infographics, slide decks, and digital assets.
  • Established connections with regional and national science, technology, and public policy journalists.
  • Demonstrated experience leveraging generative artificial intelligence tools in real-world communication workflows, such as transcription, data analysis, copywriting, or visual design assistance.
  • Familiarity with Content Management Systems such as WordPress and Marketing Automation solutions such as MailChimp.
