Job Description Summary
Pharmacy Technician registered in South Carolina and that will be trained through MUSC MTM Center protocols and OutcomesMTM protocols and will be supervised by a licensed clinical pharmacist.
Provides medication therapy management (MTM) services via outbound calls and possibly a triage of inbound calls to the MTM center, monitors eFax for prescriber responses and completion of failed faxes, supports the pharmacist for completion of Comprehensive Medication Reviews (CMRs) through pre-work up and case preparation, communicates with network pharmacies, prescribers, and beneficiaries to provide MTM services.
Additionally, may be called upon to assist the MTM Executive Director in the training of pharmacy externs rotating through the MTM Center. Position is eligible for hybrid remote work.

Contacts patients to explain the MTM program and schedules MTM encounters, patient engagement, and case management calls for pharmacist to complete.
Ensures first call resolution. Effectively assesses patient needs and concerns. Requests additional help when needed.
Makes outbound calls to patients, physicians and pharmacies. Receives and responds to calls from both provider/physician’s offices and pharmacies.
Provides timely MTM services with pharmacist oversight. Performs medication reviews to identify medication related problems; documents MTM claims. Collects a complete medication list from the patient (OTCs, herbals, and prescription medications. Appropriately documents all interventions in EPIC.
Contacts patients as needed for quarterly follow-ups. Schedules follow-up appointments as needed for additional interventions identified during the CMR and set reminders for follow up with patients or prescribers.

Reviews MTM Opportunities queue regularly to ensure staff respond to all TIPs as well as CMR opportunities.
Screens inbound phone calls and voicemail messages, determines appropriate action and escalates calls as needed.

Supports the efforts of the clinical team through collaboration with prescribers and targeted patients in order to ensure appropriate, evidence-based drug selection and resolve medication-related problems.
Provide excellent customer service, responding to customer complaints and questions in an efficient and courteous manner while including the lead pharmacist in relevant communications.
Supports basic data analytic activities and tracking of interventions and assists with preparation and documentation of responses to regulatory audits as needed.

Ensures privacy and confidentiality as required by HIPAA, company and departmental guidelines.
Participates in required MTM Call Center operational meetings and training sessions as necessary.
Continues seeking higher MTM certification credentials.
- High School graduate, required.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills. Must be able to articulate information in a clear and concise manner. Strong command of the English language.
- Registered Pharmacy Technician with the SC Board of Pharmacy, required.
- Understanding of Medicaid and Medicare Part D drug benefit and basic design of the drug benefit.
- Successful completion of a pharmacy technician training program in OutcomesMTM, required.
- General knowledge of the therapeutic categories and common indications of these medications. Ability to use pharmaceutical references. Ability to evaluate information from both oral and written sources, pharmaceutical references and report information to pharmacists, required.
- Prior Managed Care/ MTM Experience, preferred.
- Certified Pharmacy Technician, preferred.
Additional Job Description
Minimum Requirements: A high school diploma and two years experience or training within the specific work area. Some positions require certification in CPR by the American Red Cross or the American Heart Association. (4426 Dental Hygienist II) An associate degree in dental hygiene and licensure by the South Carolina State Board of Dentistry. Certification in Radiation Safety required for positions responsible for dental x-rays.
