Requirements
  • A Master's Degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, Social Work, or Marriage and Family Therapy.
  • Licensure in the State of Connecticut, or license eligibility. If unlicensed, full licensure must be obtained within 18 months of hire.
  • One to two years of internship or general counseling experience.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the developmental aspects of young adulthood.
  • Ability to interact with students.
  • Understanding and appreciation of the Jesuit mission of the University.
  • Effective interpersonal skills.
Responsibilities
  • Provide individual counseling services, including short-term counseling.
  • Coordinate case management and recommend referral or follow-up counseling with an outside source.
  • Maintain confidential documentation, including treatment notes and reports.
  • Administer triage and provide walk-in coverage to evaluate risk and screen students for intake appointments.
  • Conduct family sessions as needed and communicate with parents and referral resources.
  • Provide crisis intervention on an emergency basis and rotate weekly 24/7 crisis coverage.
  • Provide group counseling, including developing programs, conducting group pre-screening sessions, and determining group parameters and materials.
  • Develop, promote, coordinate, and market Counseling & Psychological Services group therapy semester offerings.
  • Prepare, communicate, and execute preventative psycho-educational outreach and programs.
  • Provide training for Orientation staff, student leaders, resident assistants, faculty, and administrators.
  • Develop campaigns and literature to promote mental wellness.
  • Provide individual supervision to master's-level students during internship training, including reviewing intake reports and session notes and supporting case conceptualization.
  • Participate in the Quality Assurance Program and quarterly internal audit processes to improve medical-record quality and maintain compliance with IACS standards for Counseling & Psychological Services accreditation.
  • Interact with the university community and departments including Residence Life, Campus Ministry, Student Engagement, and Public Safety.
  • Participate in the professional development of the department and division, including workshops, seminars, professional reading, committee representation, staff meetings, and communication with the supervisor.
  • Maintain knowledge of reliable community services and agencies.
  • Promote safe and secure working conditions and report unsafe conditions to the supervisor.
