Requirements
  • Solid grounding in tax law fundamentals.

  • Willingness to travel.
  • Dependability demonstrated through punctual attendance in the corporate office or at assigned events.
  • An advanced degree in a related field is required.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Word, and Internet searching.
  • Ability to perform the physical requirements of the position, including prolonged sitting, typing, reading extensively, occasional standing and walking, and lifting up to 20 pounds.
Responsibilities
  • Attend, write, and report on scheduled international tax-related events, including events with government speakers, hearings, court decisions, industry press conferences, and other assigned events.
  • Write and develop news stories and analytical articles for print and electronic publications, covering complex tax topics under deadline pressure while identifying the most important information.
  • Proactively seek story ideas while balancing daily assignments.
  • Identify, track, and prioritize developments in the assigned beat to ensure competitive print and online coverage.
  • Collect information by speaking regularly with practitioners and government officials, attending industry events, obtaining relevant source material, and researching tips and leads.
  • Communicate story ideas, provide updates on writing assignments, and respond promptly to editorial queries during the editing process.
  • Attend weekly editorial meetings.
  • Travel to cover tax-related events in other cities or countries when required.
  • Adhere to established publication deadlines and style protocols, including the generally 5 PM daily deadline.
  • Cultivate sources, follow leads, conduct interviews, research, fact-check, and identify trends and news within a technical tax area.
Desired Qualifications
  • Beat reporting experience.
  • J.D. preferred.
  • LL.M. preferred.
  • Tax, budget, or business reporting experience or specialized tax competence.
