Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree in civil engineering from a recognized accredited program.
  • Minimum of 4 years related work experience in the field of high voltage civil substation design.
  • Professional Engineer License in at least 1 United States state.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD or Bentley MicroStation.
  • Proficient in 3D Modeling (AutoCAD Civil 3D, MicroStation V8i)
  • Proficient in PLS-CADD, LPILE, STAAD, or similar programs
  • Good knowledge of the industry and technology trends specific to substations.
  • Strong familiarity with the National Electrical Safety Code
Responsibilities
  • Performs all aspects of civil design for high voltage (4kV – 230kV) and EHV (above 230kV) substation projects, including development of steel structure designs and fabrication drawings.
  • Develops concrete foundation designs and detail drawings.
  • Develops oil containment designs and detail drawings.
  • Develops metal grate platforms designs and detail drawings.
  • Develops fire wall designs and detail drawings.
  • Performs structural analysis.
  • Produces documentation for design calculations.
  • Develops foundation layout plans.
  • Compiles associated bill of materials.
  • Assists with general arrangement development.
  • Assists with cable trough and conduit plans and details.
  • Assists with grounding plans and details.
  • Assists with site plan development.
  • Assists with erosion and sediment control review.
  • Assists with stormwater management review.
  • Assists with construction documentation (sequence and request for proposal).
  • Provides technical support including bus fault stress analysis, procurement, construction.
  • Coordinates with physical designer to develop the drawings related to the above designs.
  • Coordinates with external and internal project team members including substation engineers, transmission line engineers, distribution line engineers, geotechnical engineers, and surveyors.
  • Maintains a focus on producing high-quality work and supports continuous improvement.
  • Works in a fast-paced environment on multiple projects.
  • Assists with identification of key client interests and drivers and may determine key clients.
  • Communicates client interests to project team and develops approaches to accommodate these concerns.
  • Serves as a technical specialist for system protection and communication and provides consultation and guidance to project teams.
  • Removes impediments that are obstructing the engineering team from achieving its goals.
  • Advises management on how to maximize return on investment for the team.
  • Attends all client technical review meetings.
