Job Description
The Department of Surgery at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) at Charleston is currently seeking a board-certified general surgeon who has completed a SSO-certified Complex General Surgical Oncology (CGSO) fellowship, an AHPBA HPB Surgical Fellowship, or equivalent training program for a full-time academic position as an UGI/HPB surgeon within the Division of Surgical Oncology/HPB and Endocrine Surgery at the Assistant, Associate, or Professor level. The physician will be joining our growing Division to expand our abdominal surgical oncology/HPB program at the NCI-designated Hollings Cancer Center and within our robust regional healthcare network. The Division of Surgical Oncology/HPB is led by Kevin Roggin MD, FACS, FSSO and includes three Sections (Abdominal Surgical Oncology/HPB; the Section of Breast, Melanoma and Sarcoma Surgery; and the Section of Endocrine Surgery). The Division provides patients with safe, efficient, high-quality, and patient-centered multidisciplinary cancer care throughout the state of South Carolina and within the Southeast United States. Our group includes 14 surgeons, five research faculty, a comprehensive Hereditary Cancer Clinic, 10 advanced practice providers, and three CMA/LPN. We recently launched a new “Next Day Access” program to provide enhanced access to our surgical team through a new direct referral line that is staffed by an experience RN coordinator.

Clinical responsibilities include providing comprehensive inpatient and outpatient surgical care to patients primarily at MUSC Health in Charleston (Hollings Cancer Center at MUSC, MUSC Health Ashley River Tower, MUSC East Cooper) with additional future practice opportunities within our expanding regional health care network (e.g., Nexton, SC). Our inpatient team is supported by two full-time APP and the candidate’s outpatient practice will be supported by a share of a full-time APP and CMA/scribe. Candidates should have clinical experience with both open and minimally invasive surgery treatments for benign/malignant UGI/HPB neoplasms, extremity/retroperitoneal sarcoma, and melanoma. Previous training/experience and a willingness to expand our established CRS/HIPEC and Total Pancreatectomy with Islet Auto Transplantation programs would be preferred. We are seeking to hire an academically-inclined surgeon with a career interest in producing scholarship and conducting basic science/translational/outcomes research with a strong focus on clinical trials development. We have multiple mechanisms to support this faculty position with protected research time in order to achieve the ultimate goal of independent research funding and promotion to higher rank within the COM. Our faculty are expected to actively participate in our tripartite mission of excellent clinical care, research/scholarship, and surgical education of medical students and our surgical residents. The candidate will also have the opportunity to apply for leadership positions, as appropriate to their career interests, within MUSC Health, Hollings Cancer Center, and the MUSC College of Medicine.
For more information, please contact Kevin Roggin, MD at [email protected] and submit an application and updated CV on our website.
