Blockworks acquires rival Messari to build 'Bloomberg of crypto' data platform

Blockworks, the crypto media and data company valued at $192 million in its April 2026 funding round, has acquired rival Messari to expand its market intelligence capabilities. Financial terms were not disclosed. Messari, which had raised approximately $61 million, built its reputation on protocol research, fundraising trackers and governance dashboards used by crypto funds and traditional finance firms. The acquisition adds Messari's research platform, token screeners and analytics tools to Blockworks' existing media, events and data products. The deal continues Blockworks' acquisition strategy following its purchase of The Drop newsletter in October 2024. The company has explicitly stated its ambition to become the "Bloomberg of crypto", creating a unified institutional offering in a competitive market that includes Dune Analytics, Nansen and Chainalysis.

Blockworks raises Series A extension at $192M valuation to consolidate crypto data market

Blockworks, a crypto data platform, has raised a Series A extension at a $192 million valuation, co-led by ParaFi and Reciprocal Ventures. The round included participation from Coinbase Ventures and over 20 founders and operators from Blockworks' customer base, including leaders from Solana, MegaETH, LayerZero and EigenLayer. Founded in 2017, Blockworks operates three core products: a data platform ingesting trillions of rows across 100-plus pipelines, Blockworks IR for investor relations, and the Token Transparency Framework for disclosure standards. The company aims to address crypto's infrastructure gap by providing reliable data, communication channels and accountability frameworks. Blockworks employs nearly 100 people across a dozen countries and is headquartered in New York City.

Blockworks eyes acquisitions to become crypto's Morningstar with $192M valuation

Blockworks, a crypto data startup, plans to acquire rivals and become a dominant data provider for cryptocurrency and tokenised assets, co-founder Jason Yanowitz told CNBC. The company closed a Series A extension round earlier this year led by ParaFi Capital and Reciprocal Ventures, valuing it at $192 million. The firm aims to build comprehensive data infrastructure for on-chain assets, similar to what Morningstar and FactSet provide for traditional finance. Yanowitz said annual recurring revenue grew over 500% last year, driven partly by its Digital Assets Summit conference. The fragmented crypto data industry lacks a clear leader, forcing traders to rely on multiple providers. Yanowitz believes better data infrastructure is essential for wider crypto adoption, particularly as regulatory frameworks improve following recent stablecoin legislation and ETF approvals.
