Requirements
- An MD or DO degree from an accredited medical school is required.
- Completion of an Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education-accredited Obstetrics and Gynecology residency program is required.
- Board certification or board eligibility in Obstetrics and Gynecology is required.
- An active state medical license or eligibility for licensure is required.
- Current Basic Life Support and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support certification is required, along with Neonatal Resuscitation Program and other institutional certifications as required.
- Proficiency with electronic medical records is preferred.
- Experience working in an academic health system is preferred.
Responsibilities
- Provide inpatient and outpatient consultative care in Maternal-Fetal Medicine, including management of complicated pregnancies, prenatal diagnosis and fetal ultrasound, genetic counseling and testing coordination, and procedures such as amniocentesis, chorionic villus sampling, and cerclage.
- Participate in labor and delivery coverage and multidisciplinary case management.
- Supervise and educate medical students, residents, fellows, and advanced practice providers.
- Participate in clinical or basic science research, quality improvement initiatives, and scholarly activities.
- Collaborate with other subspecialties and departments to provide comprehensive patient care.
- Engage in departmental and institutional service roles as needed.
- Provide ongoing antenatal management and consultations for patients with maternal or fetal complications, including hypertensive disorders of pregnancy, diabetes mellitus and endocrine disorders, cardiac disease in pregnancy, multifetal gestation, adverse pregnancy outcomes, and preterm labor or preterm birth risk.
- Interpret and counsel patients on genetic screening and diagnostic testing options and collaborate with genetic counselors for integrated patient care.
- Offer and perform amniocentesis and chorionic villus sampling and manage counseling for abnormal ultrasound or laboratory findings.
- Perform and interpret ultrasounds, fetal echocardiography, and targeted imaging studies.
- Participate in quality assurance and protocol development for ultrasound services.
- Supervise sonographers and imaging fellows when applicable.
- Supervise and manage complex obstetric patients in labor and delivery, including those with medical or surgical complications.
- Direct or supervise emergency obstetric interventions, maternal resuscitation, and high-acuity deliveries.
- Provide inpatient consultations and primary management for hospitalized pregnant patients with complex conditions.
- Manage periviable pregnancies, preeclampsia, preterm premature rupture of membranes, and fetal growth restriction.
- Perform and supervise cerclage placement, amnioreduction or amnioinfusion, external cephalic version, and invasive diagnostic or therapeutic fetal procedures such as shunts.
- Serve as attending physician on clinical rotations involving medical students, Obstetrics and Gynecology residents, Maternal-Fetal Medicine fellows, and advanced practice providers.
- Provide real-time teaching during rounds, ultrasound sessions, and labor and delivery care.
- Participate in a shared night and weekend call schedule with Maternal-Fetal Medicine colleagues.
- Provide backup consultative support to general Obstetrics and Gynecology providers during off-hours.
- Supervise inpatient antepartum and delivery unit coverage, including resident and fellow interactions.
