Requirements
  • A Doctor of Optometry degree from an accredited optometry school is required.
  • An active license to practice optometry in Tennessee, or the ability to obtain licensure before the start date, is required.
  • Therapeutic pharmaceutical agent certification and authority to prescribe as permitted by state law are required.
  • Strong clinical knowledge in the diagnosis and management of ocular disease is required.
  • Experience performing comprehensive medical eye examinations and managing patients with glaucoma, ocular surface disease, and other medical eye conditions is required.
  • Excellent clinical judgment to recognize conditions requiring consultation, referral, or surgical intervention is required.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills are required.
  • The ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with ophthalmologists, optometrists, and multidisciplinary care teams is required.
  • A commitment to high standards of patient care, professionalism, and ethical practice is required.
  • The ability to remain stationary for extended periods and frequently use hands, fingers, and computer equipment is required.
  • The ability to communicate effectively with patients and team members is required.
  • The ability to occasionally lift, carry, push, or pull is required.
  • Annual compliance training and compliance with HIPAA, OSHA, and company policies are required.
Responsibilities
  • Perform pre-operative evaluation and counseling for cataract and refractive surgery.
  • Manage surgical patients post-operatively.
  • Diagnose and manage glaucoma, including longitudinal care and escalation when appropriate.
  • Manage ocular surface disease, including dry eye and inflammatory conditions.
  • Evaluate and treat common medical eye conditions encountered in a specialty practice setting.
  • Apply clinical decision-making, appropriate escalation, collaboration, and documentation to support seamless shared care.
  • Function as a medical partner to ophthalmologists within the organization and referring optometrists in the community.
  • Engage with referring optometrists and healthcare professionals.
  • Participate in community and professional meetings.
  • Build and maintain a strong professional reputation and professional presence within the region.
