Requirements
  • At least 10 years of work experience with a Bachelor's degree, or at least 8 years with an advanced degree such as a Master's, MBA, JD, or MD, or at least 3 years with a PhD.
  • Strong technical knowledge of direct and indirect taxes and emerging taxes directed at the digital economy.
  • In-depth knowledge of global frameworks and institutions influencing global tax policy.
  • Significant experience preparing and staffing senior government or business leaders for high-level public and private engagements.
  • Experience working on tax policy issues in government or in the tax or financial services sector.
  • Advanced ability to research and analyze complex policy issues and convey them to audiences with varied levels of sophistication.
  • Experience managing and working with external consultants and legal counsel on sensitive business matters.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel, PowerPoint, and Word, and SharePoint.
  • Demonstrated strength in developing complex PowerPoint presentations.
  • Ability to manage multiple workflows against tight deadlines and handle confidential or material non-public information with good judgment.
Responsibilities
  • Monitor and track global tax policies, trends, and negotiations, including national and international proposals, regulations, and initiatives, to determine their effects on Visa's business, priorities, and clients.
  • Coordinate Visa's tax priorities across Global Government Affairs, legal, regulatory, global tax, Investor Relations, Finance, Tax, and Communications functions.
  • Advise executives on the implications of global tax policies and negotiations for Visa, its clients, and the global payments industry.
  • Support regional and local engagement on tax policy matters, including engagement with international organizations.
  • Translate complex tax-policy concepts for tax practitioners and policymakers with varied levels of sophistication.
  • Help shape Visa's strategies and external engagement with third-party organizations, policymakers, and influencers in support of the company's tax-policy agenda.
  • Develop collateral and supporting materials on Visa's tax-policy priorities and analyze tax policies that could affect Visa.
  • Coordinate with trade associations, third-party organizations, and consultants to monitor critical tax issues.
  • Prepare briefing documents, talking points, and other collateral materials to support executive engagement.
Desired Qualifications
  • At least 12 years of work experience with a Bachelor's degree, or 8–10 years with an advanced degree, or 6+ years with a PhD.
  • 12+ years of relevant experience with legislative, regulatory, and tax-policy processes, including processes outside the United States.
  • Experience working on financial-services and digital-tax matters in both the private and public sectors.
  • Experience in the payments industry.
  • An advanced degree such as a Master's, MBA, JD, or MD.
  • An extensive network of professional contacts in government and tax.
  • Excellent written, oral, interpersonal communication, and public-speaking skills.
  • Superior time-management skills and professional poise when interacting with colleagues at every level.
  • Strong political acumen, nuanced judgment, productive collaboration in a highly matrixed environment, and the ability to achieve results as a self-starter.
