Lead Energy and Sustainability Specialist

Location: Golden, CO orReston, VA (2 days onsite, 3 days remote)

ICF is seeking a detail-oriented, self-motivated candidate to help state and federal government clients implement and evolve their energyefficiency, decarbonization, and sustainability programs. This position will be based in our Reston, VA headquarters or Golden, CO office in a hybrid work environment.Successful candidates will support the implementation of high-profile public-private partnership programs to drive energy efficiency and emissions reductions acrossgovernment, education, commercial, multifamily, institutional, and industrial markets. They will be part of a team that builds and maintains relationships with key market actors, reviewsand analyzes energy, water and emissions data, develops marketing material that recognizes market leadership, and collaborates with other team members and clients to develop national and regional strategies to increase participation in energy and decarbonization programs.

Responsibilities

• Coordinating with clients and other team members to develop local, regional, and national strategies to influence the market and increase participation in voluntary energy, energy efficiency, building electrification, and decarbonizationprograms

• Conducting research and analysis of energy efficiency, electrification, renewable energy, and decarbonization programs and policies

• Developing communications, outreach, and training resources, including newsletters, case studies, website content, webinars, and in-person events

• Conducting outreach to energy and sustainability managers

• Supporting partner recruitment, onboarding, and ongoing support to maximize program participation

• Maintaining detailed records in a customer relationship management system

• Assisting with project management tasks including project deliverables, program staffing and budget management

• Managing and co-managing projects 

• Managing a small team of staff

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline (e.g., environmental studies, engineering, public policy, science, business)

• 8+ years of relevant experience in public and/or commercial buildings sectorenergy efficiency andsustainability programs

• 8+ years of relevant experience with building energy/water use benchmarking and ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager 

• 8+ years of relevant experience implementing energy efficiency savings measures for commercial buildings orgovernment sustainability offices 

• 8+ years of relevant knowledge of the U.S. commercial buildings sector, especially the key stakeholders helping building owners and managers in meeting ENERGY STAR program requirements for benchmarking customer buildings using Portfolio Manager and gaining ENERGY STAR certification (e.g., energy service companies, architecture / engineering firms, sustainability consultancies)  

• 8+ years of relevant experience in building benchmarking and building energy/emissions performance standards

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s degree in a related discipline (e.g., environmental studies, engineering,public policy, science,business)

• 8 to 12+years of relevant experience in public and/or commercial sector building energy efficiency and sustainability programs

• Experience writing reports, articles, case studies, or other communications materials

• Experience with ENERGY STAR, DOE Better Buildings/Better Plants, LEED, and/or other efficiency/sustainability tools andprogram platforms

• Familiarity with the development and delivery of public-private voluntary partnership programs

• Project management training (e.g., PMP) and experience 

• Experience working withCustomer Relationship Management (CRM) software systems

• Passion for sustainability and clean energy.
