Minerals Technologies achieves record 17.8% margin in Engineered Solutions amid 7% sales growth

Minerals Technologies Inc. reported strong second-quarter 2026 results, with year-to-date sales growth of 7% driven by new projects and robust demand in Asia and North America. The company's Engineered Solutions segment achieved record quarterly income with a 17.8% margin, benefiting from high-temperature technology demand and environmental infrastructure project recovery. Management implemented organisational restructuring to accelerate innovation and operational efficiency. Consumer & Specialty segment margins faced pressure from persistent inflation in energy, freight, and raw materials, though the company expects to recover margins by the fourth quarter through contractual price adjustments. The company maintained full-year guidance at mid-single-digit sales growth and projects third-quarter sales of approximately $550 million. Full-year free cash flow is anticipated to reach 6% to 7% of sales. Minerals Technologies recorded a $290 million charge related to reorganisation plan filing for BMI OldCo subsidiaries.

Minerals Technologies proposes $450M trust for talc claims in BMI OldCo bankruptcy plan

Minerals Technologies Inc. has filed a plan of reorganisation in the Chapter 11 bankruptcy cases of its subsidiary BMI OldCo Inc. and affiliated debtors. The filing meets a court-imposed deadline whilst broader disputes remain pending before the US District Court for the Southern District of Texas. The plan proposes a $450 million trust fund to address current and future talc-related claims, with a channeling injunction protecting non-debtor affiliates. MTI maintains that BMI OldCo's talc products are safe and the lawsuits are meritless. The company will record a $290 million charge in Q2 2026 to increase reserves for estimated costs. MTI continues funding the debtors' administrative expenses whilst awaiting the district court's determination on whether BMI OldCo's talc contained asbestos.
