Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Valid and qualified NYS driver’s license required and must be maintained throughout employment.
Responsibilities
  • Responsible for ensuring all required documentation is appropriately completed and maintained, as well as developing individualized hab plans (and associated documents) in conjunction with the program volunteers.
  • Coordinates appropriate site and community-based activities for volunteers.
  • Directly supervise Direct Support Professionals.
  • Oversees and when needed, participates in individual transports to and from programs, as well as to and from volunteer locations and other community-based activities.
  • Maintains communication with parent/correspondent and appropriate service coordinators of volunteers regarding progress, problems, individual needs, and all pertinent information that needs to be disseminated.
  • Provides Direct Care Services to volunteers as needed.
  • Ensures protection of volunteers from neglect/abuse during program hours. Reports incidents to administration in a timely fashion.
  • Appropriately documents all physical plant issues, as well as ensures all furniture, equipment, and supplies are properly maintained.
  • Trains volunteers to perform functional/meaningful and/or volunteer job tasks to the best of their abilities.
  • Promotes and reinforces all agency philosophies including the guiding principles.
  • Successfully completes and maintains all required trainings/certifications determined by the needs of the volunteer’s site.
  • Ensures that work-related safety procedures are in place and are being adhered to by staff. Reports any observed or discovered unsafe act or potentially hazardous situation to supervisor and/or safety committee.
  • Implements behavior support plan and supports staff to implement proactive strategies as indicated in clinical plans. Provides follow-up for documentation, support, and implementation of plans.
  • Coordinates staff training in positive behavior support strategies with respective clinical staff.
  • Reviews data for completion and identifies any progress or challenges to review with respective team members.
  • Provides crisis intervention as per training and provides guidance to staff when people supported are having challenges.
  • Participates in team meetings regularly to review individuals’ progress.
  • Performs additional related duties as requested by supervisor.
Desired Qualifications
  • Minimum 6 months’ experience working with people with intellectual and other developmental disabilities, and supervisory experience preferred.
  • Prior experience with behaviors preferred.
  • AMAP/CPR/First Aid/SCIP-R and defensive driving training preferred.
  • Familiarity with day habilitation regulations.
  • Computer proficiency in Microsoft Suite applications preferred.

Applications Open: Statewide Community Of Practice On Dei Focusing On Developmental Disabilities

BROOKVILLE, N.Y., April 30, 2024 /PRNewswire/ -- A coalition of New York disability agencies is seeking volunteer leaders for a statewide Community of Practice (CoP) advisory team on diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) to improve service outcomes for New Yorkers with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD). Applications are now open through Sunday, June 30, at 11:59 p.m.The New York State Council on Developmental Disabilities (CDD) tapped AHRC Nassau, a disability services provider based on Long Island, to lead this "participatory learning process" with a five-year grant of $750,000. The coalition currently includes WRI Solutions, the New York Alliance for Inclusion and Innovation, and the National Alliance for Direct Support Professionals (NADSP).Volunteers participating in the CoP will focus on DEI strategy development and implementation tailored to the I/DD community. Their goal will be to elevate care quality and establish DEI best practices individually, within service organizations, and across New York State through trainings and policy development.Together, the coalition will develop a minimum of five regional teams totaling approximately 250 stakeholders.
