Requirements
  • A high school diploma or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
  • An active certification from a nationally accredited pharmacy technician certification program, currently PTCB, is required upon hire.
  • Good moral character, including application of ICARE values, is required.
Responsibilities
  • Assist the pharmacist in operating and maintaining the pharmacy drug distribution system with a focus on quality, accuracy, patient care, and customer service.
  • Prepare medication orders for dispensing under pharmacist supervision and prepare medication doses for pharmacist review and approval before delivery.
  • Process orders and dispense requests through the pharmacy computer system, including applicable data entry.
  • Prepare, package, log, and safety-check medication orders in accordance with applicable laws and procedures, including barcode scan confirmation where required.
  • Operate and maintain automated medication management systems and other technology used in medication preparation.
  • Perform medication repackaging processes when needed for patient care or stocking requirements.
  • Inspect medication areas for quality assurance and communicate immediate concerns to a pharmacist or supervisor.
  • Monitor inventory, stock medication areas and automated systems, rotate stock, check expiration dates, remove expired medications, and ensure proper medication storage.
  • Monitor temperature and humidity control systems where required.
  • Triage phone calls and handle medication requests appropriately while deferring clinical decisions to a pharmacist.
  • Use service recovery techniques to troubleshoot medication-use-system problems, communicate resolutions, and maintain patient confidentiality.
  • Use pneumatic tube and hand-delivery medication systems, complete transfer or tracking documentation, and respond to urgent medication delivery requests.
  • Complete projects or assignments related to the medication-use process under pharmacist oversight.
  • Perform other assigned duties appropriate for a certified pharmacy technician.
Desired Qualifications
  • Previous pharmacy experience is preferred.
