  • BS/BA degree in biological sciences preferably related to molecular neurobiology or cell biology and 2+ years of experience in in a laboratory setting OR
  • MS/MA degree in biological sciences preferably related to molecular neurobiology or cell biology and some relevant experience preferred OR
  • PhD degree in biological sciences preferably related to molecular neurobiology or cell biology and some relevant experience preferred
  • Additional microscopy experience strongly preferred
  • Working knowledge of brain anatomy and cell biology strongly preferred
  • Strong skills with histology (immunohistochemistry, immunofluorescence, in situ hybridization) and imaging (fluorescence and light microscopy, confocal, etc.) required
  • Hands-on experience with tissue processing, embedding and sectioning strongly preferred
  • Occasional weekend work required
  • Recognizes fundamental anomalies in data points and identifies issues in experiments/processes
  • Begins to understand how to think outside of the technical process and consider the impact decisions will have on the broader scientific goals
  • Strong knowledge of one scientific discipline
  • Good knowledge of scientific principles, methods and techniques
  • Good knowledge and demonstrated ability working with a variety of laboratory equipment/tools
  • Strong computer skills

Responsibilities
  • Performs assigned experiments to support scientific activities and project goals involving processing, embedding, sectioning and staining of human and animal tissues (immunohistochemistry, in situ hybridization, etc.) and microscopic imaging of stained tissues
  • Responsible for histology assay development, optimization and validation
  • May design experiments
  • Facilitate acquisition of histology lab equipment and responsible for equipment maintenance
  • Oversees sample handling, storage and inventory
  • Recommends alternatives, researches new methods and techniques and may proactively seek out senior personnel to discuss potential solutions to problems
  • Completes data analysis and reporting. Maintains and updates SOP’s and writes data summaries for experiments conducted
  • Provides training and/or supervision to junior staff, as needed
  • Other duties as assigned
