  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • ServSafe Manager Certification must be obtained within six months of hire.
  • The employee must complete all USDA Mandatory Professional Standards training hours required by the position category and ensure kitchen staff complete their annual training hours.
  • The employee must demonstrate effective oral and written communication skills in English and be able to read and comprehend written, graphic, and oral instructions.
  • The employee must have strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • The employee must follow District policies and procedures.
  • The employee must be able to perform frequent standing, reaching, lifting, bending, kneeling, stooping, squatting, climbing, pushing, twisting, and pulling of items weighing 40 pounds or less, with standing or walking required for 75% of the workday.
  • The employee must be able to perform repetitive finger, hand, and wrist movements and use both hands to grasp, grip, move, or operate objects and equipment.
Responsibilities
  • Manage the kitchen's food preparation and service operations, including staff supervision and training.
  • Maintain meals per labor hour, food inventory, and food costs to the required Profit and Loss ratios.
  • Complete and maintain daily production reports to support regulatory compliance, correct serving sizes, waste reduction, theft control, and customer control.
  • Ensure staff can recognize a reimbursable meal and monitor sales lines.
  • Handle employee issues confidentially, follow Human Resources policies, conduct critical performance conversations, and plan, organize, direct, coordinate, and delegate responsibilities to food-service staff.
  • Respond promptly and professionally to parent, staff, and student complaints and report issues to the supervisor.
  • Place food orders by established deadlines and maintain accurate inventory records in the inventory system.
  • Oversee sanitation and cleaning of kitchen facilities, equipment, and areas; maintain unit security; follow safe food-preparation practices; and manage health inspections and kitchen site reviews.
  • Stay current on District and Department communications and share relevant information with kitchen staff.
  • Train and develop kitchen staff, create and revise training materials, deliver safety and Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points training, monitor safety and Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points practices, and manage and train up to four kitchen assistants.
  • Ensure employee growth opportunities and cross-training.
  • Maintain kitchen financial records, deposits, forms, and reports for the Colorado Department of Education.
  • Ensure accurate collection, counting, and recording of cash collected at the site.
  • Monitor compliance with school food-service regulatory agencies, pursue regulatory updates, and provide sustainable solutions.
  • Manage the breakfast program when applicable.
  • Build positive relationships with Nutrition Services staff, school staff, students, parents, and the surrounding community.
  • Approve and ensure accurate monthly employee payroll, approve employee time off, manage site staffing, and coordinate with the Manager and Central Office to cover absences and turnover.
