Requirements
  • A relevant master's degree; a qualifying final-semester or completed graduate assistantship; or a relevant bachelor's degree plus one year of recreational-program experience; alternatively, four years of relevant recreational-program, intercollegiate athletics, campus recreation, park district, or similar organizational experience.
  • Ability to work in office, fitness, and facilities environments.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and assist with moving equipment, including overhead lifting.
  • Newly hired employees may be required to obtain and maintain American Red Cross, CPR/AED/First Aid, Bloodborne Pathogens, and similar certifications.
  • A background check is required.
Responsibilities
  • Hire, train, schedule, supervise, and assess the Facility Operations and Fitness team of 35–50 student staff, temporary employees, and graduate assistants.
  • Support staff development through coaching and mentorship.
  • Approve timecards and prepare documents and reports for bi-weekly payroll.
  • Cover open shifts within the Building Operations and Fitness team as needed.
  • Inspect internal and external activity areas, locker rooms, and restrooms to support security and proper use and function of the spaces.
  • Oversee facility maintenance requests and liaise with Facilities Management and external vendors for routine repairs and requests.
  • Oversee the preventative maintenance program for fitness equipment and maintain accurate equipment inventory and usage records.
  • Serve as a point person during emergencies, especially at night and on weekends.
  • Oversee and collaborate with facilities and vendors on building and athletic field maintenance.
  • Assist in creating and enforcing PE Complex and Campus Recreation staff and patron policies.
  • Monitor the internal event schedule and support student building supervisors and staff during large-scale rentals and special events.
  • Schedule operations and event support staff.
  • Serve as the facility operations liaison between rentals and Campus Recreation.
  • Collaborate with Campus Recreation staff to support departmental events.
  • Develop, implement, promote, and evaluate fitness programs, including group fitness classes and personal training.
  • Recruit, train, evaluate, and supervise fitness instructors and personal trainers.
  • Ensure students, instructors, and personal trainers comply with required certifications.
  • Collaborate with other university departments through professional development committees and represent Campus Recreation at university events.
Desired Qualifications
  • A master's degree in Recreation, Exercise Science, Sports Administration, or a closely related field.
  • Demonstrated experience hiring, training, supervising, and evaluating part-time staff.
  • Demonstrated experience implementing policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrated experience in group fitness and/or personal training.
  • A nationally recognized personal training or group fitness certification, such as ACE, NASM, or ACSM, or the ability to obtain one within 90 days of employment.
  • Experience in collegiate or campus recreation facility and/or fitness operations.
