Your Opportunity

Join Mission Australia’s Communities of Focus initiative in Whyalla, a place-based approach that works alongside HOPE Whyalla and local partners to strengthen community capacity, connection and long-term positive change. As part of a collaborative backbone team, you will play a key role in engaging young people, amplifying youth voice and supporting community led solutions that create meaningful outcomes for the Whyalla community. This is an onsite position where you will build strong relationships with young people, schools, youth services, community organisations and local stakeholders to foster participation, aspiration and collective action.

Working closely with youth advisory groups, community leaders and collaborative partners, you will co design and deliver projects that empower young people, strengthen connections between services and the community, and help create sustainable opportunities for youth to thrive. You will contribute to an innovative and evolving initiative focused on building local strengths, encouraging collaboration and supporting collective action that creates lasting community impact for young people across Whyalla.

Your Key Responsibilities:

• Build and maintain strong relationships with young people, schools, youth services, community organisations and key stakeholders to encourage meaningful participation and engagement.
• Co design, coordinate and deliver youth focused community projects, events, workshops and activities that strengthen community connection and capacity.
• Support youth advisory groups and other youth led forums to ensure young people have a genuine voice in community decision making and local initiatives.
• Conduct community and asset mapping to identify existing services, programs, community strengths and emerging gaps affecting young people.
• Facilitate collaboration between services, community groups and young people to improve access to opportunities and strengthen local networks.
• Provide administrative and secretariat support including meeting coordination, agendas, minutes, reporting and project documentation.
• Participate in HOPE Whyalla activities, Communities of Focus initiatives and cross team collaborations while contributing to community capacity building and sustainable youth outcomes.

Requirements for Success

• Experience working with young people or children in community, youth development, education, recreation, sport or related settings, with a minimum of two years' relevant experience preferred.
• Certificate III or higher in Community Services, Youth Work, or a related discipline, or equivalent experience gained through previous industry practice.
• Demonstrated ability to engage, motivate and build positive relationships with young people while maintaining professional boundaries and supporting individual growth.
• Strong understanding of community development principles and experience working collaboratively with stakeholders to achieve shared outcomes.
• Established local community connections and networks, particularly within youth focused services, schools, community groups or sporting organisations, will be highly regarded.
• Adaptable and resilient approach with the ability to work effectively in an evolving environment, manage competing priorities and remain focused on achieving outcomes.
• Passion for supporting young people to thrive, with lived experience and a genuine commitment to community led change is highly valued.
• First Aid certificate is desired but not mandatory.
• Full driver licence with no restrictions.

Before starting work with us, you will need to undertake a national police history check, qualifications, and referee checks, and have a clearance to work with children/vulnerable people.
