Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree in Journalism, Communications, Media Production, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience, is required.
  • A minimum of two years of professional media production, photography, or multimedia content creation experience is required.
  • Candidates should have a current portfolio to share during the interview process.
  • Strong visual storytelling capabilities and creative problem-solving skills are required.
  • The ability to transform complex academic, research, and institutional topics into engaging visual narratives is required.
  • Advanced photography expertise in lighting techniques, camera operation, composition, exposure control, color management, and subject direction is required.
  • Experience working effectively in dynamic and fast-paced environments is required.
  • Strong video production skills, including camera operation, audio capture, lighting, editing, and post-production workflows, are required.
  • Working knowledge of graphic design principles for digital communications is required.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously are required.
  • Strong interpersonal and collaborative skills are required.
  • Experience with Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Lightroom or Lightroom Classic, Adobe Premiere Pro, and Adobe Creative Cloud applications is required.
Responsibilities
  • Develop and execute a comprehensive visual storytelling strategy highlighting research, teaching excellence, student experiences, and faculty achievements.
  • Collaborate with communications, marketing, academic, and administrative partners to identify and capture compelling stories.
  • Translate complex academic concepts and research into accessible, audience-focused visual narratives.
  • Lead all phases of photography production, including concept development, creative direction, location scouting, scheduling and logistics, on-site lighting and photography sessions, image editing and retouching, and asset delivery and distribution.
  • Produce photography for websites, social media, newsletters, publications, and recruitment materials.
  • Create short- and long-form video content supporting strategic storytelling initiatives.
  • Capture and edit video footage for digital platforms and marketing campaigns.
  • Design select visual assets and graphics to support integrated communications efforts.
  • Ensure all content reflects Duke's brand standards and storytelling goals.
  • Help maintain Trinity's digital asset management system by organizing content, improving accessibility, and supporting asset retrieval.
  • Contribute to visual asset cataloging and metadata management.
  • Assist in managing photography and videography equipment inventories.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies and recommend tools that enhance production capabilities.
  • Stay informed about emerging trends, technologies, and best practices in photography, videography, and multimedia communication.
  • Build relationships with peers across Duke to share expertise, collaborate on projects, and advance creative excellence.
  • Support special projects and perform additional duties as assigned.
Desired Qualifications
  • Four or more years of professional photography and multimedia production experience.
  • Demonstrated experience producing high-quality visual content across multiple platforms.
  • A bachelor's degree in Journalism, Communications, Media Production, Visual Media, or a related discipline.
  • Higher education experience.
  • Familiarity with After Effects, Illustrator, InDesign, Audition, Final Cut Pro, Motion, Logic, Audacity, Canva, and digital asset management systems.
