Requirements
  • A Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Arts, Master of Science, or Master of Arts degree with the corresponding required experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Demonstrated experience bringing operational excellence to an organization.

  • Outstanding people management skills and more than four years of experience directly supervising staff.

Responsibilities
  • Serve as the chief of staff for Nudge Unit operational and research staff and facilitate a culture of learning and growth among the team.
  • Direct and manage staff and interns, including recruitment, training, coaching, and performance evaluation and management.
  • Assist staff in developing measurable performance goals and objectives aligned with Nudge Unit, Center for Health Care Transformation and Innovation, health system, and program objectives.
  • Direct staff in problem solving, conflict resolution, and process improvements.
  • Allocate staffing and essential resources across the project portfolio and help ensure projects are clearly scoped and operationally feasible.
  • Manage staff coverage for active projects during vacations, sick calls, and urgent situations, or provide interim coverage as necessary.
  • Facilitate team meetings to ensure execution of study-related responsibilities and deliverables against key milestones.
  • Supervise education and training for direct reports, including department-specific onboarding.
  • Lead team culture initiatives, including team retreats, pulse surveys, staff and project milestone events, holiday celebrations, and Center for Health Care Transformation and Innovation culture initiatives and research collaboratives.
  • Maintain the psychological safety and welfare of each staff member.
  • Serve as the point person for key Nudge Unit operational processes, including best practices, standard operating procedures, methods, communication, and budgeting.
  • Identify and lead opportunities to improve team methods, operations, culture, project selection, and execution.
  • Establish project-related process workflows, timelines, and milestones for clinical and research projects to ensure compliance with protocols, institutional policies, and applicable regulations.
  • Identify projects that are drifting or becoming disconnected from outcomes and help redirect them.
  • Lead the development, evaluation, and implementation of new workflows and operating models in response to evolving strategic priorities and staff feedback.
  • Develop standards, standardized operating procedures, guidance documents, and education and training in accordance with objectives, milestones, institutional policies, and regulations.
  • Cultivate and manage relationships with internal health system stakeholders, including executive leadership, grants management and procurement leadership, informatics partners, and clinical and operational leaders, to secure project support and prioritization and remove obstacles.
  • Manage agendas and lead Nudge Leadership Team meetings, all-staff meetings, operations meetings, collaborative learning sessions, and the Nudge Unit's role in Center for Health Care Transformation and Innovation quarterly meetings.
  • Manage strategic communications and related programs, including newsletters, monthly clinical project progress reports, quarterly reports, dissemination of research findings, and publications through appropriate communication channels.
  • Develop and manage mechanisms to streamline and prioritize internal and external requests for Nudge Unit consultations and project support.
  • Oversee the planning and execution of Nudge Unit-hosted events, including the Annual Nudges in Health Care Symposium.
  • Oversee Nudge Unit budgeting and operations across health system and grant-funded projects, including staff allocations, expense direction, budget forecasting, and grant proposal budgets.
  • Oversee annual goal and objective setting for the Nudge Unit in alignment with departmental and health system goals and priorities, and periodically review progress.
  • Contribute to business development by shaping proposals, participating in executive-level discussions, and helping convert strategic opportunities into funded work.
  • Provide thought partnership to the Faculty Director and Nudge Leadership Team on strategic decisions supporting the growth and continued success of the Nudge Unit.
  • Represent the Nudge Unit in high-visibility internal and external settings, including conferences, advisory engagements, and partner meetings.
  • Perform other assigned duties and responsibilities.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience managing large-scale implementations across health systems.
  • Background in healthcare management or innovation.
  • Experience developing and managing multi-stakeholder initiatives in a university-based setting.
  • Experience applying behavioral science, implementation science, informatics, or user-centered design thinking.
  • Experience with digital clinical decision support approaches and information technology.
  • Experience working with institutional review boards and human research protection regulations.
