Location
This role can work remotely from anywhere in the USA. You must be legally authorized to work in the US. Bixal does not provide visa sponsorship.
What will you do?
The Senior Accessibility Specialist will be responsible for leading the digital accessibility efforts for our federal clients. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of 508 compliance, PDF remediation, and web accessibility, and will be able to develop and implement effective accessibility solutions. The successful candidate will be a subject matter expert on accessibility best practices and will be able to provide guidance and training to project teams and clients.

This is a full-time proposal position contingent on contract award.
Responsibilities
- Perform Section 508 testing of priority external and internal websites, applications, and documents; provide results and remediation recommendations to ensure improved compliance.
- Ability to manage a document backlog including testing, remediation and reposting or conversion of files to HTML.
- Submit ongoing detailed website compliance summary reports.
- Mange ongoing queue of accessibility requests in a timely manner.
- Conduct regular accessibility scans of websites and web applications, provide timelines and recommendations for ongoing improvements.
- Experience with accessibility testing including automated scanning, manual testing of websites, and usability testing with people with disabilities, and with adaptive technologies.
- Submit regular Section 508 conformance metrics reports.
- Create well-organized repository of past website reports.
- Provide reports from website scans that contain all appropriate information for Web content owners and developers to identify compliance issues.
- Provide and execute plans for testing and validation to assist content owners in bringing into compliance any backlog of content, including websites, applications, and documents within the specified time.
- Serve as a subject matter expert on accessibility best practices, staying up to date with the latest developments in the field.
- Provide guidance and training to project teams and clients on accessibility best practices.
- Work closely with UX designers, developers, and other stakeholders to ensure accessibility is built into all digital solutions.
- Conduct accessibility testing and analysis and make recommendations for improvement.
- Stay up to date on federal accessibility regulations and ensure compliance with relevant laws and standards.
- Provide reporting on client’s compliance with Section 508 and areas where further improvement is required.
- Other relevant duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, plus a minimum of four years of related experience in digital accessibility, with a deep understanding of 508 compliance, PDF remediation, and web accessibility.
- Strong understanding of accessibility guidelines and best practices, including WCAG and Section 508.
- Experience with accessibility testing and analysis, and knowledge of screen reader tools such as JAWS and NVDA.
- Experience using site scanning software like Level Access AMP, Siteimprove, or other automated report-generating platforms.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with project teams and clients.
- Experience leading accessibility efforts for large-scale digital projects.
- Experience with PDF remediation and software such as Allyant (formerly CommonLook), Adobe Acrobat Pro, Grackle or other remediation platforms.
- Knowledge of federal accessibility regulations, including Section 508 and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to develop and implement effective solutions.
- Ability to work independently, as part of a team, and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
