Requirements
- 3+ years experience leading an engineering team - mentoring, hiring, and managing performance
- 4+ years experience thriving in backend engineering positions
- Experience defining technology roadmaps and goals for platforms that empower other teams to deliver value quickly
- Experience gathering business requirements, formulating metrics, and building reports
- Demonstrated experience architecting secure, reliable systems to power innovative in-app experiences at scale
- Close collaboration with software engineers, product managers, data scientists and designers to deliver rapid value to end-users
- Successfully championed documentation, operational excellence, clean code, and testing practices to promote system reliability
- Managed technical debt and feature development to continuously deliver user value without compromising technical quality
- Hopper sold around $4 billion in travel and travel fintech in 2022, up nearly 3X over 2021. In 2022, Hopper increased its revenue 2.5X year-over year
- The company's bespoke fintech products, such as Flight Disruption Guarantee and Price Freeze, now represent 30-40% of Hopper's total app revenue
- Given the success of its fintech products, Hopper launched a B2B initiative called Hopper Cloud in late 2021. Through this partnership program, any travel provider (airlines, hotels, banks, travel agencies, etc.) can integrate and seamlessly distribute Hopper's fintech or travel inventory. Responsibilities
- Manage performance and development of a diverse team of engineers
- Collaborate with team members across disciplines to define an inspiring product vision focused on our customers
- Work hands-on alongside a talented team of software engineers to rapidly deliver clean, fast, and scalable solutions in Scala, Swift, and Kotlin
- Collaborate with leadership to develop a culture promoting technical excellence
- Manage, mentor and as needed, hire technical team members
Desired Qualifications
- Backend experience with Scala, Google Cloud, Kubernetes
- Experience developing B2C mobile products with millions of MAU
- Experience in risk, fraud, or payments domain
