Position Summary
The Transportation Operations Manager will work on site at the Motor Manufacturing plant in Ellabell, GA and be responsible for all Yard activities. Working hand in hand with plant management to manage on-site activities which involve oversight of a shunting / switching / local shuttle service to ensure routes are completed as required to ensure 100% on-time delivery to the assembly line. This is a challenging and rewarding role that requires strong leadership, technical expertise, and excellent problem-solving abilities.
The Manager will oversee the essential functions of invoicing, driver settlements, and the generation of operation reports. This position is responsible for analyzing operational data to support strategic decision-making and ensure the profitability of operations through accurate P&L reporting.
Responsibilities & Essential Functions:
Primary:
• Lead all on-site operations with safety as the top priority; implement and enforce safety guidelines and develop site-specific safety procedures.
• Manage and coordinate inbound and outbound shipments, including customer-owned returnable assets (carts, racks, dollies).
• Ensure uninterrupted part delivery to production lines in alignment with customer build schedules.
• Oversee and develop site supervisors, coordinators, and shuttle drivers through continuous training and performance feedback.
• Establish and monitor internal KPIs to measure safety, timeliness, and service accuracy.
• Maintain and report on yard inventory and equipment usage.
• Serve as the primary liaison for plant-level operations to ensure seamless communication and service.
• Develop scalable processes and talent to support future growth in alignment with the plant’s launch curve.
Secondary:
• Prepare and submit weekly invoices to the customer with supporting documentation.
• Monitor and ensure the mechanical integrity and maintenance of all shuttle and yard equipment.
• Supervise proper trailer/container securing and material handling compliance.
• Assign appropriate equipment and schedules to driver team based on operational needs.
• Step in to assist with shuttle moves in time-critical situations, if necessary.
Tertiary:
• Train new hires and provide ongoing coaching to existing staff.
• Oversee yard cleanliness and organization, including compliance with CTPAT and site security standards.
• Conduct regular safety audits, daily/weekly safety briefings, and performance reviews.
Job Qualifications & Requirements:
REQUIRED: HS Diploma/G.E.D., 7 yrs direct, 5 yrs indirect, 3+ yrs Managerial role, CDL-A PREFERRED: Bachelor's Degree, 9 yrs direct, 7 yrs indirect, 5+ yrs Managerial role, CDL-A
Knowledge / Skills / Attitudes:
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office products, specifically Excel and other productivity applications and platforms.
- Experience in a Managerial role in a trailer/container storage yard
- Team player, willing to support activities to drive great customer satisfaction. - Ability to multitask and work under pressure.
