Requirements
  • Graduation from an accredited Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing, Associate's Degree in Nursing, or Nursing Diploma program is required.
  • December 2026 nursing school graduation is required for this cohort.
  • Current registration with the North Carolina State Board of Nursing as a registered professional nurse or current compact RN licensure to practice in North Carolina is required by the start date.
  • BLS or higher certification is required.
  • RN licensure is required before the February/March 2027 program start date.
Responsibilities
  • Provide and supervise direct and indirect total nursing care responsibilities.
  • Use the nursing process of assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating to achieve nursing department goals.
  • Plan and provide advanced or specialized nursing care for patients according to the DUHS Professional Practice Model.
  • Participate in the clinical ladder program, educational activities, departmental committees, research projects, and other assigned health-related projects.
  • Provide nursing services to patients and families within the scope of practice defined by the North Carolina Board of Nursing.
  • Adhere to the rules and regulations of applicable local, state, and federal agencies and accrediting bodies.
  • Participate in outstanding customer service and maintain respectful relationships with others.
  • Complete the DUHS Nurse Residency Program within 12 months of hire.
  • Meet the DUHS Nurse Residency Program criteria within 18 months of hire for promotion to CNII.
Desired Qualifications
  • Professional specialty certification is preferred.
  • Registered nurses without a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing or higher are encouraged to enroll in an appropriate BSN program within two years of starting and complete it within seven years.
