Job Description
There has been explosive growth in the advanced heart failure program, including acute MCS devices and cardiogenic shock, durable LVAD therapy including minimally invasive approaches, and heart transplantation. Primary clinical duties will include heart transplants including complex reoperative cases, implantation of acute and durable mechanical circulatory support devices, and organ procurement (limited as we have a full-time organ procurement surgeon). Participation in the pre-operative evaluation process including weekly transplant selection committee meetings, quality meetings, operative and postoperative care will be provided. It is also possible that the experience can be customized to the candidate’s preferences with additional experiences in other cardiac procedures and lung transplantation, for example.
In addition, there is ample opportunity for involvement in cutting edge clinical trials and clinical research, with over 170 publications in advanced heart failure by our multidisciplinary group last year alone. Individuals who have completed an accredited cardiothoracic surgical training program with interest in surgical heart failure are encouraged to apply. Must be eligible for a South Carolina Medical License.
