Requirements
  • Strong understanding of regulatory frameworks across UK and Bermuda including Lloyd's, PRA, FCA, and BMA.

Responsibilities
  • Assisting the Senior Compliance Manager with reviewing systems and controls to ensure UK and Bermuda operations comply with Lloyd’s, PRA, FCA, BMA and other regulators.
  • Acting as a compliance professional ensuring the Compliance Team is responsive to business needs.
  • Working with the Compliance Team to support, understand and advise the business in a proactive, open and transparent manner, balancing regulatory and commercial requirements.
  • Taking responsibility for acting as a regulatory advisor and keeping abreast of regulatory activity across relevant jurisdictions.
  • Reviewing policies, procedures and associated systems and controls to ensure efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Designing and executing the annual Compliance Plan and providing regular updates to the Senior Compliance Manager.
  • Ensuring training and development regarding compliance matters are in place for all Ascot staff (e.g., Conduct Rules, Whistleblowing, Sanctions and Financial Crime, Business Ethics). Managing a documented training programme with HR.
  • Employers Liability Register Maintenance & Audit – supporting ELTO matters including annual audit process, liaising with external auditors, reviewing policies and remediation.
  • Management of Ascot’s SM&CR framework including advising on function allocation, application process and notifications to regulators.
  • Drafting/updating underwriting authority templates and annual renewal process.
  • Designing a compliance monitoring programme covering new broker applications, licensing, underwriting authority control, complaints handling, and other areas as required.
  • Fostering a culture of proactive compliance and building relationships with regulators and stakeholders.
  • Assisting with governance papers for boards/committees and regulatory submissions.
  • Ensuring regulatory deadlines are tracked in Regulatory Diary.
  • Keeping abreast of new regulations and thematic reviews.
  • Working with Financial Crime and Conduct & Complaints teams as needed.
  • Attending regulatory change-related events as required.
  • Ad-hoc projects as determined by Senior Compliance Manager or Head of Compliance.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience in a similar role within insurance or financial services.
  • Regulatory qualification or ongoing education (e.g., ACA, ACCA, CFA, CIMA, CIA).
  • Knowledge of insurance regulations, Lloyd’s market and GAAP/IFRS reporting.
  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
  • Ability to influence and partner with senior management and regulators.
  • Proven track record of designing and implementing compliance programs.
  • Experience with training staff and creating learning materials.
  • Attention to detail and analytical mindset.

She joined Ascot in 2020 as U.S. Controller and brings more than 20 years of insurance industry experience. Global specialty insurer and reinsurer Ascot has appointed Justin Keith, current Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Ascot Bermuda Limited, to lead the expansion of the firm's treaty reinsurance offerings in the US market. To serve in his new role, Keith will relocate to the US later this year. Ceded Re group head Ashleigh Edwards joins to drive global platform strategy. Bermuda-headquartered global specialty re/insurer Ascot Group has enhanced its global platform strategy with the appointment of Ashleigh Edwards as group head of Ceded Re, adding a seasoned executive with extensive experience from RenaissanceRe, Allied World Re, Aspen Re and QBE. Edwards takes on ultimate responsibility for the Ceded Re strategy, including oversight of a multitude of reinsurance structures, placement strategies and classes of business.
