Requirements
  • A Master's degree in the human services field is required.
  • Three to five years of supervisory experience in a large shelter or residential facility that provides comprehensive social services, housing placement, and job skills training to homeless, mentally ill, and chemically dependent populations.
  • A work schedule that includes some weekend and evening hours is required.
  • New York State licensure as a Licensed Mental Health Counselor, Licensed Master Social Worker, or Licensed Clinical Social Worker is required.
Responsibilities
  • Manage and monitor daily program operations of a mental health shelter based on city, state, and federal regulatory requirements and Department of Homeless Services contractual requirements.
  • Plan, schedule, organize, direct, and oversee the provision of all clinical services.
  • Provide supervisory oversight and training to Senior Service Coordinators, Social Workers, Housing Specialists, and Program Nurses.
  • Ensure collaboration among Senior Service Coordinators, Social Workers, Housing Specialists, and Program Nurses regarding service coordination, case management, barriers to services, community-based referrals, consumer behavior, mental health, chemical dependency, housing, employment, and job skills training.
  • Meet weekly with the Program Nurse and Psychiatrist to coordinate psychiatric and medical care for shelter residents.
  • Review all admissions and intake screenings.
  • Monitor daily census reports.
  • Develop groups, workshops, and recreational activities that foster consumer self-sufficiency, self-determination, recovery, relapse prevention, daily living skills, socialization skills, and overall wellness.
  • Monitor and oversee caseload assignments, group and activity facilitation, housing and job placements, job skills training placements, and referrals for community-based social services.
  • Monitor and oversee room and dorm visits and inspections to assess consumer personal hygiene, room cleanliness, and activities of daily living skills.
  • Manage incident response, crisis intervention, and related documentation.
  • Assist in overseeing and managing building evacuation during fire drills and building emergencies.
  • Monitor program effectiveness, compliance, and consumer outcomes, including productivity standards and reporting to management and funding sources.
  • Monitor the establishment and maintenance of linkages with community-based job skills training and education programs to build a referral base for consumers.
  • Monitor the establishment and maintenance of linkages with mental health, primary health care, and substance abuse service providers.
  • Monitor the establishment and maintenance of working relationships with supportive housing providers, real estate brokers, managing agents, and landlords as resources for consumers.
  • Attend staff meetings, case conferences, training, and management meetings as needed.
  • Act as the primary liaison for the Care Coordination team and other facility departments.
  • Monitor documentation for quality and timely completion; review and monitor the development of Individual Living Plans and ensure they are updated every 30 days.
  • Develop follow-up plans for program graduates and monitor their status for up to one year with corresponding documentation.
  • Provide direct services as needed and appropriate.
  • Comply with and enforce SUS employee policies, procedures, protocols, corporate compliance policies, New York City Department of Homeless Services and New York State Department of Social Services rules, regulations, and statutes.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Desired Qualifications
  • English/Spanish speaking is preferred.
  • A Social Work degree is preferred.
  • SIFI Certification is preferred but not required.
  • Knowledge and experience in New York City Department of Homeless Services contract requirements is preferred.
