Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from an accredited university or college.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in Transmission and Distribution substation engineering for electric utilities and renewable energy power plants, including experience as an Electrical Project Engineer in substation applications, primary outdoor substation design, and required studies.
  • Ability and willingness to travel up to 20%, including international travel.
  • Must have completed similar high-voltage substation design projects in the past.
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States.
  • Ability to complete a drug screen as applicable.
Responsibilities
  • Lead and coordinate all technical aspects of substations and balance of plant for large and high-voltage substation projects.
  • Identify key internal and external stakeholders and their needs, including technical information and execution strategy, and drive effective communications to align people for efficient work.
  • Perform engineering activities such as schedule development and updates, design safety, planning and tracking project design reviews, design optimization, on-time delivery, risk management, and quality control and quality assurance.
  • Interface with the Project Engineering Director, discipline project engineering managers, designers, computer-aided design operators, project managers, and support organizations.
  • Prepare and deliver concept and detailed designs for power single-line drawings, physical substation general-arrangement layouts, plan and elevation drawings, equipment erection drawings, construction details, high-voltage bus and cable layouts, high-voltage equipment, electrical clearances, conduit, wiring, auxiliary power, grounding, lightning protection, and control buildings.
  • Produce optimized outdoor general arrangements for air-insulated substations and indoor arrangements for high-voltage, medium-voltage, and low-voltage equipment in control and gas-insulated switchgear buildings.
  • Produce and deliver technical specifications and data sheets for major high-voltage equipment.
  • Oversee or perform related studies and calculations and develop bills of material.
  • Manage combined project bills of material and material definition lists from multiple sources, write or review high-voltage equipment technical specifications, and support sourcing for vendor quotations and reviews.
  • Serve as the single point of contact for technical issues for the customer and project manager.
  • Manage technical change control and risk management.
  • Respond to site requests for information and conduct field inspections for compliance verification.
  • Meet customer engineering critical-to-quality requirements.
  • Support proposals and tenders for high-voltage direct-current or substation projects, including estimating man-hours and applying major equipment.
  • Apply high-voltage substation North American standards and guidelines, local grid codes, and related equipment requirements.
  • Engineer design packages when no clear customer specification is provided.
  • Apply design calculations for primary and secondary equipment, including battery sizing, direct-current system component selection, power transformer and circuit breaker selection, circuit protection, control and power cable selection and rating, bus, fittings, insulator and arrester selection, ground-grid design, and lightning protection.
  • Perform field testing and commissioning and electrical and mechanical troubleshooting.
  • Use programming and design automation and computer-aided design tools for engineering work.
Desired Qualifications
  • A Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering.
  • Professional Engineer or Professional Engineer license.
  • In-depth experience applying high-voltage substation North American standards and guidelines, including Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers and American National Standards Institute standards and codes such as the National Electrical Code and National Electrical Safety Code.
  • Experience with GE gas-insulated switchgear equipment.
  • Strong knowledge of high-voltage and medium-voltage equipment, including reactors, capacitors, transformers, breakers, disconnect switches, and balance of plant equipment.
  • Professional Engineering license in the United States and willingness to review and seal personal work and the work of others under supervision.
  • Strong knowledge of contract and project management, Engineering, Procurement and Construction, or Engineering Equipment Package project execution.
  • Strong understanding of civil engineering and substation-related structural design requirements.
  • Field-testing and commissioning experience with safe work habits.
  • Strong problem-solving ability and capacity to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
  • AutoCAD, Building Information Modeling, and Revit experience.

GE Vernova and Quanta Services are positioned as resilient stocks that could withstand market volatility, according to a new analysis. Both companies are benefiting from surging demand for electrical infrastructure driven by AI and data centre expansion. GE Vernova, spun off from General Electric in 2024, has seen its stock rise more than sixfold since debut. The company's backlog expanded 37% year over year to $176.3 billion at the end of Q2 2026, nearly four times its projected annual revenue of $46.2 billion. Quanta Services, an energy infrastructure builder, reported a backlog of $53.4 billion in Q2 2026, up 49% year over year. The company's revenue is projected to grow 39% in 2026. GE Vernova hires Rivian CFO Claire McDonough, leaving EV maker without clear successor

GE Vernova has hired Claire McDonough as CFO, effective 1 January, leaving electric vehicle maker Rivian to find her successor. McDonough joined Rivian in January 2021 and helped take the company public through a $13.7 billion IPO that November. She also negotiated Rivian's technology joint venture with Volkswagen, which agreed to invest up to $5.8 billion. Rivian shares fell more than 6% following the announcement, whilst GE Vernova shares declined about 3%. Analysts cited Rivian's lack of a clear succession plan as a factor weighing on its shares. Derek Mulvey, Rivian's VP of finance, is expected to serve as interim CFO after McDonough's departure. McDonough will join GE Vernova in November, succeeding Kenneth Parks, who is retiring.

SpaceX builds turbine foundry to break AI power bottleneck, cut GE Vernova wait times by 18 months

Elon Musk's SpaceX is building a foundry in Bastrop, Texas, to manufacture blades and vanes for industrial gas turbines, according to The Information. Musk confirmed the move on X, saying in-house casting could accelerate natural gas turbines coming online by up to 18 months. The initiative targets the same supply chain bottleneck GE Vernova has flagged to investors. GE Vernova CEO Scott Strazik said the company pushed suppliers to add capacity in 2024, sometimes providing capital for new furnaces. GE is mostly sold out through 2030 and aims to increase annual turbine production from 20 gigawatts this year to 30 GW by decade's end. SpaceX has committed over $2.8 billion to gas turbines over three years to support its Colossus data centres near Memphis. The move addresses growing power demand from AI infrastructure expansion.

GE Vernova and LS Electric form JV to target South Korea's HVDC market

GE Vernova has formed a joint venture with LS Electric to strengthen its position in the high-voltage direct current sector.
