Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree in nuclear or mechanical engineering is required.
  • Experience in reactor thermal-hydraulic design and analysis is required.
  • Proficiency with thermal-hydraulic and/or computational fluid dynamics codes such as COBRA, VIPRE, STAR-CCM+, or equivalent is required.
  • A strong grounding in fluid mechanics, heat transfer, and two-phase flow is required.
  • Experience integrating experimental or test data into analytical models is required.
Responsibilities
  • Design and analyze coolant flow through the core and primary systems, evaluating pressure drop, flow distribution, mixing, and heat transfer to optimize performance.
  • Develop and refine thermal-hydraulic analysis methods, models, and correlations, including subchannel, system, and computational fluid dynamics analyses, to support core and primary system design.
  • Establish thermal margins and operating limits, including departure from nucleate boiling ratio and flow-induced effects, and feed results into design and safety analyses.
  • Partner with the testing team to prioritize test campaigns, define instrumentation and conditions, and target the data most valuable to the design.
  • Incorporate test data into analytical models by validating, calibrating, and benchmarking them to reduce uncertainty and improve design fidelity.

These plants are built to proprietary nuclear-ready vessel standards and installed on ships, with end-to-end sustainment managed through a planned nuclear lifecycle dockyard. The design repeats a single, standardized plant across vessel types and uses water-cooled reactor technology, with licensed operators trained or created by Ocean Atomics to run them at sea. Its goal is to decarbonize shipping by delivering a practical, scalable maritime nuclear propulsion system and a supporting lifecycle ecosystem.
