Requirements
  • A high school diploma or equivalent, relevant experience, certification, or license is required.
  • A minimum of four years of relevant experience is required.
  • A valid license from Miami-Dade County is required.
  • A valid State of Florida driver's license is required.
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local safety and environmental laws and regulations is required.
  • Knowledge of CMMS work order systems and Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, Word, and Excel, is required.
  • English proficiency in spoken and written communication is required.
  • Knowledge of safety procedures for handling equipment is required.
  • The position requires participation in the University's National Incident Management System training.
  • The position requires emergency response after hours or on days off, rotation, and weekend support.
Responsibilities
  • Inspect, repair, install, modify, and maintain general building systems and equipment.
  • Ensure that all systems are operational and inspected in accordance with accepted standards.
  • Direct and support technical support staff.
  • Develop and implement preventive maintenance and repair programs and procedures.
  • Respond to service requests, including hot calls, cold calls, and odor complaints.
  • Inspect water and life safety systems and respond to fire systems and emergency calls.
  • Identify economic, safety, regulatory, and energy-conservation deficiencies and report them to the lead, supervisor, or manager.
  • Perform minor plumbing repairs, repair leaks, unclog drains, repair or replace plumbing fixtures, and perform minor soldering and brazing.
  • Perform electrical repairs and mechanical maintenance work involving lighting, flooring, painting, and miscellaneous tasks.
  • Check boilers, water lines, gas lines, and sewer lines.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on machinery according to the required schedule.
  • Repair and maintain building structures and cracks.
  • Assist with maintenance of air-handler units, including cleaning, applying chemicals, changing or cleaning filters, changing blower wheels, lubricating non-sealed bearings, cleaning housings, and welding coolant leaks.
  • Assist with identifying and patching wall leakage.
  • Maintain and clean air vents and returns.
  • Repair or replace ballasts, switches, motors, controls, and lighting fixtures.
  • Operate heating and cooling systems, pumps, and related equipment.
  • Adjust, repair, or replace switches, thermostats, humidistats, and other minor equipment components.
  • Check and operate fire pumps and cycle and test generators.
  • Pressure-clean and paint facilities and equipment.
  • Ensure that door-locking systems and door closures operate properly.
  • Maintain an orderly work area and safeguard tools, equipment, and spare parts.
  • Support primary utility locator duties by using utility-location equipment to identify underground utilities and creating multiple grids.
  • Keep to schedule and assist with efficient task and project planning.
