Columbia Sportswear has ended its year-long "Expedition Impossible" campaign, which promised to give away the company's assets to anyone who could prove the earth is flat. Launched in May, the humorous marketing effort attracted hundreds of submissions featuring theories, maps, diagrams and video evidence. Whilst no winner was declared, participants who submitted qualified entries will receive $100 off Columbia gear. Some will also receive novelty prizes including a taxidermied beaver and an old sled. The campaign won multiple awards at Cannes, including the Dan Wieden Titanium Lion, making it the most awarded campaign in company history. Columbia recently reported second-quarter sales of $614.4 million, up 2% from forecasts, suggesting its comedic marketing approach is resonating with consumers.
