Requirements
  • Graduation from a Commission on Dental Accreditation-approved dental school and possession of a Doctor of Dental Surgery or Doctor of Dental Medicine degree.
  • A current and valid California dental license in good standing.
  • Post-graduate residency training is required.
  • Three years of practice in all aspects of general dentistry in a community-based dental clinic serving underserved populations in a multicultural environment.
  • Extensive administrative and personnel management experience.
  • A general understanding of Asian and Pacific Islander community and health issues.
  • A current Drug Enforcement Administration registration, cardiopulmonary resuscitation certification, and other required certificates.
  • Meeting all continuing medical education requirements.
Responsibilities
  • Oversee dental providers and assure the quality of dental services.
  • Provide oversight of designated agency components as directed by the Chief Dental Officer.
  • Partner with the Chief Dental Officer on strategic initiatives, including dental expansion and residency and training programs.
  • Participate in executive leadership decision-making, operational policy development, and organization-wide problem-solving.
  • Collaborate with the Chief Dental Officer on supervision and development of licensed provider staff.
  • Participate in annual evaluations of licensed staff and maintain evaluation policies and tools.
  • Establish, review, and maintain dental standards to assure quality dental care.
  • Plan and facilitate clinical trainings and educational opportunities for licensed staff.
  • Manage contracted subspecialist providers and their practices administratively.
  • Support provider retention strategies and efforts.
  • Collaborate in recruiting and hiring new licensed staff.
  • Support orientation, evaluation, and human resources processes for new providers.
  • Plan, implement, and oversee the dental residency program.
  • Oversee the management and operations of dental sites.
  • Provide administrative and clinical oversight of dental students, interns, residents, and volunteers.
  • Provide patient care at 20–40% full-time equivalent and assume coverage when needed.
  • Develop and review dental policies and protocols and apply clinical and cost-effective quality measures.
  • Provide oversight of the provider peer-review process.
  • Develop peer-review audits relevant to quality-of-care questions.
  • Participate in process-improvement initiatives and transformations.
  • Support compliance with applicable federal, state, local, and Federally Qualified Health Center rules and regulations governing dentistry and clinical care.
  • Support treatment authorization and chart-note standards.
  • Support dental department budget development and management.
  • Develop and support staff training programs.
  • Assume the Chief Dental Officer’s functions during absences or when representing the agency externally.
  • Act as dental provider champion and assist with special projects and grants.
  • Coordinate troubleshooting and problem-solving for dental and patient services, personnel and staffing, programs, projects, procedures, and protocols.
  • Support executive leadership on public and community relations, advocacy, and fundraising.
  • Monitor and evaluate consultants when needed.
  • Collaborate with Human Resources on onboarding and orientation of providers, students, residents, and volunteers.
  • Collaborate on integrated-care projects with medical and specialty mental health departments.
  • Work with the Quality Improvement Department on continuous quality improvement initiatives.
  • Monitor compliance with licensure regulations, policies, and procedures and propose enforcement improvements.
  • Assist with the strategic plan and support its implementation.
  • Carry out supervisory responsibilities, including interviewing, hiring, coaching, orienting, training, assigning and directing work, appraising performance, taking disciplinary action, and resolving complaints and problems.
  • Implement clinical policies and procedures and ensure staff and trainees follow protocols.
  • Enforce clinic policies and procedures, including Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act confidentiality requirements.
  • Participate in organization-wide activities, meetings, fundraisers, outreach, advocacy, committees, retreats, board meetings, and quality-improvement processes.

  • Bilingual and bicultural proficiency in an Asian language and English.
  • Knowledge of integrated-care models spanning primary care, dental, behavioral health, and specialty mental health practices.
