Requirements
  • Experience building or maintaining SDKs, client libraries, or developer tools, ideally in Python and/or TypeScript.
  • Deep understanding of performance, including profiling, benchmarking, and minimizing central processing unit and memory overhead in hot paths.
  • Ability to manage projects independently and develop conviction about what to build and how to ship it.
  • Thoughtfulness about versioning, backwards compatibility, and migration paths.
  • Interest in open source software and willingness to discuss integration challenges with developers.
  • Familiarity with a substantial portion of the TypeScript monorepo stack, including Next.js, Express workers, PostgreSQL, ClickHouse, Amazon S3, and Redis.
Responsibilities
  • Own the Python and TypeScript SDKs, including their reliability, performance, and developer experience.
  • Design developer-facing application programming interfaces, including function names, parameter structures, breaking-change communication, and documentation.
  • Maintain integrations with major artificial intelligence frameworks and model providers, ensure new Langfuse features work across them, and add new integrations as the ecosystem evolves.
  • Maintain the OpenTelemetry Protocol endpoint so it is robust, well-documented, and supports the full range of Langfuse features.
  • Work with the OpenTelemetry community to help steer generative artificial intelligence conventions.
  • Write and own SDK documentation, integration guides, and migration paths.
  • Identify what to build, propose solutions through request-for-comments documents, and ship them end to end.
  • Manage personal work through Linear.
  • Use artificial intelligence tooling and workflows in engineering work.
Desired Qualifications
  • A Computer Science or quantitative degree is preferred.
  • Experience with OpenTelemetry internals or observability instrumentation is a bonus.
  • Former founder or early startup experience is a bonus.
  • Contributions to popular open source SDKs or developer tools are a bonus.
  • A machine learning or artificial intelligence background or familiarity with the large language model framework ecosystem is a bonus.

Langfuse provides open-source observability and analytics for Language Learning Machine (LLM) applications. It helps teams trace and debug complex LLM workflows by recording production traces that show every step in an LLM chain, including unlimited nested actions, exact costs, and token-level details for prompts and completions. It also tracks non-LLM actions like database queries and API calls to give a full view of an application's performance. The platform offers prebuilt analytics focused on token usage, cost, latency, and trace scores, all linked to traces to help identify root causes quickly. Langfuse integrates with popular frameworks and libraries and offers a public API and typed SDKs for Python and JS/TS so teams can build custom dashboards and features. Its goal is to make it easier to observe, cost, and optimize LLM-powered applications by providing clear visibility and actionable insights.

Simplify's Take

What believers are saying

  • ClickHouse's January 2026 acquisition adds capital, distribution, and enterprise credibility.
  • Berlin and San Francisco hiring in September 2026 signals continued product and GTM expansion.
  • March 2026 performance gains improve retention by making large-project debugging materially faster.

What critics are saying

  • ClickHouse can subsume Langfuse's roadmap, turning the team into a feature group.
  • Open beta v4 still lacks a self-hosted migration path, delaying enterprise upgrades.
  • Open-source observability is crowded; Arize Phoenix and OpenTelemetry erode Langfuse's niche fast.

What makes Langfuse unique

  • January 2026 ClickHouse acquisition gives Langfuse deeper ClickHouse performance leverage.
  • March 2026 v4 moved to an observations-centric ClickHouse model, cutting dashboard loads 10x.
  • Langfuse remains open-source and self-hostable, preserving developer trust and adoption.
