Requirements
  • A high school diploma or general education degree (GED) and 1–2 years of related experience and/or training are required.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, Current Procedural Terminology (CPT), and International Classification of Diseases, Ninth Revision (ICD-9) coding is required.
  • Excellent computer skills, including Microsoft Office and Medic, are required.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required.
  • The ability to maintain positive customer service and establish effective working relationships with office staff and employees in a team environment is required.
  • The ability to maintain patient confidentiality and prioritize and manage time independently is required.
Responsibilities
  • Maintain excellent customer service, including problem-solving payer issues.
  • Manage electronic health record referral and order work queues according to office or provider preference and patient needs.
  • Coordinate and schedule referral activity.
  • Obtain accurate billing and demographic information.
  • Ensure prior authorization for requested services under payer guidelines.
  • Communicate delays and denials to the ProHealth team and employer.
  • Process referrals using CPT and ICD-9 coding.
  • Participate in case management meetings.
  • Process and schedule Digestive Health procedures throughout the system when assigned to Digestive Health.
  • Cross-train to assist with patient check-in and check-out when assigned to Digestive Health.
  • Work on a rotational basis to cover the in-person scheduling desk when assigned to Digestive Health.
  • Perform additional duties based on department needs.
Desired Qualifications
  • Successful completion of a Medical Assistant or LPN program is preferred.
  • A current Medical Assistant registry or certification, or an LPN license in good standing and valid in Michigan, is preferred.
