Requirements
  • A high school diploma or GED is required unless working under a student permit.
  • Basic computer skills and knowledge of programs such as Excel and Word are required.
  • Thorough understanding of safe and effective nursing practices within the State of Florida is required.
  • Ability to assist licensed nurses with procedures within the certified nursing assistant scope of practice is required.

  • Personal integrity and the ability to deal tactfully with residents, family members, visitors, government agencies, and personnel are required.
  • Ability to work harmoniously with professional and non-professional personnel is required.

  • Ability to protect confidential information and comply with confidentiality requirements and the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act is required.
  • Patience, a cheerful disposition, enthusiasm, and willingness to handle residents according to their maturity and physical functioning level are required.
  • Ability to adhere to a professional code of ethics is required.
  • Ability to relay information concerning a resident’s condition to the appropriate staff members is required.
Responsibilities
  • Assist residents with bathing, toileting, oral hygiene, skin care, grooming, nail care, and dressing.
  • Feed residents, provide bedside water and snacks, and transfer residents to and from dining areas according to the nutritional plan of care.
  • Answer resident call lights and respond to requests for assistance in a timely manner according to facility policy.
  • Maintain resident rooms by making beds or changing bed linens, cleaning bedside tables, and organizing personal belongings as needed.
  • Observe and report unusual changes in residents’ appetite, skin condition, or behavior according to facility policy.
  • Offer emotional support and actively listen to residents to build trust and promote independence in daily living.
  • Maintain the confidentiality of residents and their care to protect resident rights and privacy.
  • Document vital signs, assistance, and other care provided in medical records according to facility policy.
  • Comply with safety requirements and infection-control measures while maintaining a clean work environment.
