Harmattan AI designs and manufactures autonomous aerial systems for defense. Its portfolio includes training drones, surveillance drones, and high-velocity interceptor drones, all built to operate with minimal human input. The products combine hardware and a software-driven autonomy stack that uses real-time sensing, computer vision, and machine learning to make decisions on the battlefield. The systems are designed for high-volume, attritable production and rapid software updates, aiming to be deployed and scaled across allied forces. The company differentiates itself by focusing on full hardware production and integration for governments and NATO partners, rather than just pilots or prototypes, and by pursuing software-defined, modular, and easily updatable platforms. Harmattan AI’s goal is to become a major European supplier of autonomous defense systems across multiple theatres, producing thousands of units per month and supporting deployments in diverse security environments.

What believers are saying

  • Harmattan AI says its Paris production site can build 10,000 units monthly.
  • The French army's 5,000-unit June 23, 2026 order validates repeat procurement.
  • Morocco signed Harmattan AI on June 17, 2026 for local production and AI research.

What critics are saying

  • Harmattan AI depends on French procurement; a delayed DGA budget hits 2027 revenue.
  • NAMIB's July 2026 test proved connectivity, not combat survivability or autonomous lethality.
  • If export approvals stall, NATO and Morocco programs freeze and Harmattan loses scale.

What makes Harmattan AI unique

  • Dassault Aviation led Harmattan AI's $200 million Series B on January 12, 2026.
  • NAMIB linked a Rafale F4 to a drone sensor in July 2026.
  • France ordered 5,000 Sonora drones by early 2027 after 1,000 January deliveries.

Rafale and drone complete collaborative electronic warfare flight with new NAMIB payload

Dassault Aviation and Harmattan AI have successfully tested NAMIB, a new electronic warfare payload, during a collaborative flight with a Rafale F4 fighter jet. The system, mounted on an unmanned aerial vehicle, detected and geolocated a radar several dozen kilometres away, transmitting target coordinates to the Rafale for a simulated strike. NAMIB can detect, identify, and geolocate electromagnetic emissions from air defence systems. It operates on tactical drones and fixed-wing unmanned aircraft. Development began in January 2026 as part of a strategic partnership between the two companies. The test demonstrates the Rafale's multi-domain combat capabilities and its ability to integrate with autonomous systems. Harmattan AI is a defence technology company specialising in autonomous robotic systems for contested environments.
