Role Overview

Join us as a UX Designer at Promise, where you will leverage your expertise in design systems to establish and manage our UX design framework and components library from the ground up. In this crucial role, you will combine your deep understanding of visual design principles with a proven track record of building and maintaining scalable design systems.

You will work closely with our product, engineering, and business teams to define a unique visual language and brand identity that embodies our mission to make governmental and essential services more accessible and user-friendly. This role goes beyond creating visually appealing designs; it’s about improving lives by delivering intuitive, consistent digital experiences across our products and platforms.

What You’ll Do

• Build and manage a comprehensive design system, including style guides, component libraries, and documentation that ensures consistency and efficiency across all products.

• Apply your visual design skills to create engaging, on-brand UI elements and layouts that enhance usability and delight users.

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate the design system seamlessly into our product development process, enabling rapid prototyping and iteration.

• Conduct design system audits and identify opportunities for improvement, ensuring the system evolves to meet changing needs and maintains best practices.

• Deliver training and support to developers, and other stakeholders on the proper use and application of the design system.

• Participate in design reviews, providing expert feedback and guidance to ensure all designs align with our established standards and guidelines.

• Stay current with design system trends and technologies, championing innovation and adoption of new tools and techniques.

What You’ll Need

• 4+ years of experience in UX/UI design, with a strong focus on building and managing design systems for complex digital products.

• Extensive knowledge of visual design principles, typography, color theory, and layout design, and how to apply them consistently at scale.

• Expert proficiency in Figma, including advanced features for design system management and collaboration.

• Experience with front-end technologies (e.g., HTML, CSS, JavaScript MUI) and handoff processes to ensure proper implementation of designs.

• Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to clearly articulate design decisions and champion the value of the design system to diverse audiences.

Bonus Points

• Experience with accessibility standards and designing inclusive user interfaces

• Familiarity with agile development methodologies and collaborating closely with engineering teams

• Prior work with enterprise-level design systems for products in fintech or government sectors

Important Note

As part of the interview process, you will be asked to present a case study of a design system you have built or significantly contributed to in the past. Be prepared to walk through the system in detail, explaining your process, key decisions, challenges faced, and the impact the system had on the product development process and user experience. This portfolio review will be a critical factor in assessing your suitability for the role.
