Requirements
  • Graduate of a formal Radiography Program accredited by a mechanism acceptable to the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists.
  • Current Massachusetts Radiologic Technologist License: Category Radiography
  • Current ARRT registration (within 1 year of licensure)
  • Current CEU credits, documenting compliance with CEU requirements
  • BLS/CPR Certification required.
  • Experience with computer systems required, including web based applications and some Microsoft Office applications including Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access. Experience with Meditech preferred.
  • Ability to rely on experience, judgment and time management skills to plan and accomplish goals.
  • Positive, team oriented attitude and a professional appearance.
Responsibilities
  • Performs radiographic procedures with minimal supervision in a safe, accurate and timely manner under the direction of the Chief Technologist, Chief of Radiology, Radiation Safety Officer and the Director of Radiology and Cardiology Services.
  • Sets up equipment as necessary and uses proper technical factors appropriate to patient size, body habitus and/or pathologic state.
  • Independently operates various types of radiographic equipment to produce and process images, including general radiology equipment, fluoroscopy rooms, portable X-ray machines and C-Arm units.
  • Follows requisition to provide proper study for patients and ensures exams requested match patient condition/history; gathers information as necessary.
  • Performs appropriate studies as determined through the established imaging standards protocol.
  • Prepares patient for radiologic exams by positioning, immobilization, moving equipment, and adjusting exposure factors.
  • Assists physician in administering contrast media and ensures appropriate fluoroscopy exam/procedure setup.
  • Provides views and films as required by Radiologist and protocols; offers additional views or variations as needed.
  • Completes procedures in timely fashion while ensuring highest quality studies and independently reviews films for correct positioning and film quality.
  • Provides patient centered care for patients of all ages and conditions, monitors and coordinates with nursing/physician for necessary interventions.
  • Maintains HIPAA compliance and minimizes patient discussions; uses interpreter services as needed for limited English proficiency and ASL services.
  • Communicates with reception to minimize patient waiting and acts as resource for referring physicians, proceduralists and Radiologists.
  • Maintains clean and orderly work area and adheres to infection control standards; follows hospital infection control and safety procedures; uses protective equipment.
  • Follow ALARA standards to minimize radiation exposure to patients and staff.
  • Reports equipment malfunctions to supervisor or Director of Radiology.
  • Stocks exam rooms and maintains adequate inventory; minimizes overstocking.
  • Familiar with emergency equipment and responds to emergencies; remains composed and follows directions.
  • Ensures integrity of Code Cart in Radiology Department daily.
  • Works cooperatively with healthcare team; handles interruptions and adapts to workload changes; prioritizes and solves problems; responds quickly to emergencies.
  • Collaborates with other health care providers to ensure quality and continuity of care.
  • Documents and reports all adverse events within Diagnostic Radiology; notifies Director of Radiology and Cardiology Services; enters events in reporting system.
  • Assists during orientation of new staff members in Radiology Department; welcomes and supports new employees.
  • Works schedule as required; on-call as needed; accommodates patient and staffing needs.
  • Maintains current state licensure and ARRT credentials; maintains CEU credits; adheres to ethical standards; maintains active BLS/CPR certification; may perform similar duties on emergency basis; additional responsibilities may be assigned as needed.
