Requirements
  • At least six years of experience in janitorial or maintenance work.
  • Knowledge of chemicals and reactions and the safe, proper use of cleaning supplies and equipment.
  • Fluency in English and Spanish.
  • A high school diploma or equivalent.
  • First aid, CPR, and emergency behavior intervention certifications.
  • Ability to pass pre-employment and random drug screens.
  • Proof of work eligibility upon request.
  • Ability to pass pre-employment and biennial criminal background checks.
  • Ability to respond sensitively and competently to the service population’s cultural and socioeconomic characteristics.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with staff members, service providers, and professionals.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret policy manuals and documents.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining emotional control and professional composure.
  • Computer literacy sufficient to perform the responsibilities of the position.
  • Ability to organize and plan work.
  • Ability to work effectively without intensive supervision, independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Responsibilities
  • Meet applicable federal and state regulatory guidelines and standards.
  • Maintain safe and sanitized conditions in agency buildings and equipment that meet or exceed licensing and policy requirements.
  • Operate janitorial and maintenance equipment and immediately report malfunctioning equipment.
  • Maintain knowledge of equipment used for janitorial and maintenance duties.
  • Participate in scheduled meetings, team decisions, and operations.
  • Implement safety protocols, including evacuating with children and staff during emergencies.
  • Work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed and requested by the supervisor.
  • Maintain confidentiality in all areas of child and program operations.
  • Maintain the organization’s professional and ethical standards, including respecting staff, children, and community members and complying with the required dress code.
  • Clean, sanitize, and maintain buildings and equipment according to agency policies, procedures, and applicable local, state, and federal rules and regulations.
  • Report unsafe conditions to supervisory staff and suggest solutions to hazards.
  • Meet predetermined deadlines required by the program and federal partners.
  • Frequently traverse from one area of the campus to another.
  • Frequently move equipment weighing up to 100 pounds across the campus.
  • Support, encourage, and recruit foster parents for foster care programs.

Compass Connections is a nonprofit provider of community-based services for children, young people, and families. Programs include foster care, residential care, family preservation, behavioral health, and support for unaccompanied children. Teams work with public agencies and caregivers to provide safe, stable, and individualized services. Compass works in child welfare and human services, responding to safety, trauma, development, family relationships, and regulatory requirements through residential settings, foster networks, community programs, and public-agency partnerships.
