As part of this role, you will get an opportunity to work on various layers of the storage stack, including all aspects of operating systems and file systems, distributed systems, high performance protocol stacks, and next-generation virtualization technology.

What you’ll achieve

As a Software Principal Engineer, you will collaborate to develop effective system test strategies and test plans across Dell’s UDS product portfolio.  You will work with Product Development, Product Owners and Escalations teams to drive quality improvements throughout the development lifecycle. You will also have the opportunity to drive continual process improvements for the evolution of testing procedures and influence shift left test strategy.

You will:

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define test strategies, author test plans, and provide automation requirements and specifications. Validate complex, distributed storage systems across multi-config test environments.
• Design and execute tests that account for non-deterministic behaviors in distributed systems, ensuring robustness under unpredictable conditions
• Collaborate with appropriate stakeholders to make sure your test environment validates the customer use cases as closely as possible. Identify, document, and track defects through resolution. 
• Participate in the review and evaluation of product requirements, specification and design docs to ensure quality is built into every stage of development.
• Advocate for Systems Quality by anchoring every technical decision in a deep understanding of customer needs, anticipating edge cases and real-world impact.

Essential Requirements

• 8-12 years of hands-on experience in software testing and test automation (Python, JavaScript)- preferably within an enterprise storage product environment (either on-premise or cloud) where Distributed Systems architecture is a key component.
• Deep knowledge of file systems, storage protocols, snapshots and data replication: Read/Write (IOPs, Latency, Bandwidth), I/O datapath, NFS, SMB, S3, ACLs, networking layers (switching, routing, vlans)
• Good understanding of how end customers use/deploy Storage Systems in production environments. Experience in related system software projects e.g: Operating systems, Linux Kernel, Hypervisors, Containers etc.
• Ability to deploy and use 3rd party IO tools such as; Load Dynamix, Mongoose, fio to simulate IO test workloads as a supplement to real workloads.
• Skilled at reviewing and collaborating on product design docs and have competency in authoring detailed test plans.

Desirable Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
• Thorough understanding of how to leverage non-deterministic testing to ensure system reliability, fault tolerance, scalability, and concurrency
