Requirements
- Completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program and currently licensed or eligible for licensure as a Physician Assistant, or completion of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program and currently licensed or eligible for licensure as a Nurse Practitioner/Advanced Practice Registered Nurse.
- Physician Assistant or Advanced Practice Registered Nurse license type/certification: AGPNP/ANP (Adult Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner or Adult Nurse Practitioner): Adult patients (13 years to death) in stable chronic disease management or primary care setting.
- Physician Assistant or Advanced Practice Registered Nurse license type/certification: FNP (Family Nurse Practitioner): (birth to death) stable chronic disease state management, primary care across the lifespan.
- Preferred Experience: Minimum of 2 years cardiology experience as an Advanced Practice Provider.
- Degree of Supervision: Advanced Practice Registered Nurse or Physician Assistant will be assigned a Primary Supervising/Collaborating Physician employed by MUSC and will report directly to this physician.
- Required Licensure, Certifications, Registrations: Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), Department of Health and Environmental Control (DHEC) and Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) registration.
- Required Minimum Training/Education: Master's degree in Nursing from an accredited school of nursing (for the Additional Job Description) and two years of clinical experience required, at least one year of which must have been in a specialty area of care.
- Certification as a Nurse Practitioner specific to the area of employment required unless a new graduate; new graduates must be certification eligible upon employment and obtain certification within six months of employment.
- Licensure as a Registered Nurse and official recognition as a Nurse Practitioner from the South Carolina Board of Nursing.
- Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support certification or American Red Cross Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers certification.
Responsibilities
- Provides direct care to patients including taking comprehensive history and performing physical examinations.
- Evaluates and treats based on history, physical examination, radiological, laboratory, and other diagnostic test results pursuant to the practice agreement or scope of practice guideline.
- Initiates referrals to other health care providers, and/or consults with the attending physician or collaborating physician.
- Documents and bills for direct care provided.
- Utilizes current research and evidence-based decision-making in all clinical practice.
- Performs and participates in quality/performance improvement activities and clinical research.
- Participates in and supports accreditation, compliance, and regulatory activities of the organization.
- Demonstrates responsibility for professional practice through active participation in professional organizations and continuing education.
- Potential to precept students enrolled as advanced practice provider students and facilitate learning of other new team members.
- APRN or physician assistant must maintain licenses, certifications, continuing education units, etc. as required by applicable policies and state law.
- Must be able to travel to secondary practice as scheduled.
