SUMMARY:

The Director of Software Engineering will lead enabled application development teams within the 84.51° Engineering organization and play a key role on the 84.51° Engineering Leadership team.  This role will be responsible for partnering with 84.51° business owners and technologists to lead strategic, tactical, and operational aspects of solutions to support the 84.51° business.  This includes backend and internal facing architecture such as finance and HR systems to sales and customer focused application for leads and billing.  The successful candidate will be an innovative, forward thinking technology leader with a relentless focus on customers and inspiring people. They will be delivery-minded and a natural networker across teams and with external partners.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Collaborating with partners across 84.51° to create and execute Engineering strategies in support of 84.51° overall business plan.
• Coaching, motivating, mentoring, and growing a world-class Engineering team.
• Working to enable high performing teams to deliver amazing business value on time and with high quality.
• Driving for continuous improvement in operational effectiveness within Engineering and across 84.51°.
• Leading and coaching direct reports in the performance of responsibilities; providing ongoing feedback to direct reports and completing performance reviews.
• Participating in the formulation and implementation of company business system architecture plans, assessing cost and feasibility of system requests, and ensuring the plan supports both strategic and near-term needs
• Providing a solid understanding of software contracts and vendor management.
• Strategically managing large technology budgets and ensuring cost savings opportunities and efficiencies are being achieved.
• Drive improvements in operational efficiency and lower costs of running the engine by identifying opportunities for automation, education, and process changes.
• Encourage innovation and evaluation implementation of new technologies, inclusion, teamwork, self-organization, and diversity.
• Escalate concerns to leadership, as needed, and work independently to remove roadblocks for the teams.
• Drive continuous improvement to deliver solutions that are at the forefront of industry leading techniques while also adhering to best practices.
• Balance expectations, needs, and priorities of multiple competing business interests. Gain buy-in from diverse groups for strategic vision.

QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS, AND EXPERIENCE:

• Minimum 10 years software development experience including minimum 5 years leading engineering teams.
• Experience managing enterprise sales and financial systems such as ERPs or Salesforce strongly preferred.
• Proven ability to translate strategic vision into successful execution and lead teams through change
• Solid management experience with the demonstrated ability to build, mentor and maintain an inclusive team-based environment.
• Demonstrated interpersonal skills with an ability to communicate and work effectively with diverse groups of people.
• Proven commitment to continuous improvement within the workplace.
