Requirements
  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing and possess a valid Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse license in good standing according to state and federal requirements.
  • Have a thorough understanding of safe and effective nursing practices within the state of Florida.
  • Basic computer knowledge and skills.
  • Demonstrate personal integrity and the ability to deal tactfully with residents, family members, visitors, government agencies, and other personnel.
  • Protect confidential information and remain compliant with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act.
  • Knowledge of personal computers, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, fax machines, and copying machines.
Responsibilities
  • Be responsible for the facility's infection prevention and control program and wound-prevention program.
  • Create systems for preventing, identifying, reporting, investigating, and controlling infections, skin breakdown, and communicable diseases.
  • Follow standard and transmission-based precautions and determine when and how resident isolation should be used.
  • Create systems for recording incidents identified under the infection prevention and control program and the facility's corrective actions.
  • Partner with facility leaders, physicians, the medical director, medical staff responsible for antimicrobial stewardship, and local, state, and national agencies on infection-prevention activities.
  • Conduct outbreak investigations and report possible incidents to the appropriate agencies as required.
  • Review new residents and complete initial skin assessments and treatment-plan assessments.
  • Participate in clinical reviews to identify changes in residents' conditions and implement Braden Scale prevention interventions when conditions change.
  • Obtain weekly wound measurements and document wound assessments, including date, location, stage, length, width, depth, color, surrounding tissue, drainage, and healing progress.
  • Make daily rounds to verify that prevention interventions are implemented.
  • Monitor infection-control techniques during dressing changes and conduct rounds with other nurses.
  • Develop written infection-prevention standards, policies, and procedures, including surveillance, incident reporting, precautions, isolation, hand hygiene, and linen handling.
  • Oversee the infection prevention and control program in accordance with applicable national standards and the State Operations Manual.
