Requirements
  • A Basic Life Support Provider credential must be obtained within 30 days of hire or transfer, with American Heart Association or American Red Cross certification accepted.
  • One of the following is required before hire or transfer: an Emergency Medical Technician credential from the Illinois Board of Emergency Medical Services and Highway Safety; a Practical/Vocational Nurse credential from the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation; or a Nurse Aide credential from the Illinois Department of Public Health.
  • A nursing student who has completed one semester of medical-surgical nursing is also eligible.
  • A high school diploma equivalency or one year of applicable cumulative job-specific experience is required.
  • Required professional licensure or certification may be used in lieu of education or experience when applicable.
Responsibilities
  • Perform basic clinical and non-clinical patient-care activities under supervision.
  • Assist with the movement and placement of patients.
  • Assist patients with personal care and activities of daily living.
  • Report findings or changes in patients' physical, mental, and emotional conditions to nursing staff and document necessary records.
  • Keep patient rooms clean and orderly and maintain medical equipment.
