Requirements

5+ years experience in writing, technical documentation, and/or developer outreach for a developer audience
2+ years experience with a programming language such as JavaScript, React, Java, PHP, Python, Go etc
Excitement and understanding of what it means to own an end-to-end documentation creation process
Strong written and verbal communications skills, and compassionate proofreading and editing for others
The ability to produce and organize content with a logical flow
Experience working cross-functionally to communicate the nuts and bolts of a technical product

Responsibilities

Own the end to end design, development, iteration and process around documentation at Observable
Learn all the ways to explore, create visualizations and play with data on the Observable platform and communicate the information in a way that is engaging and understood by users
Create and maintain internal and external documentation for technologies and tools used at Observable
Write, assist with and/ or edit technical content pieces from video scripts, blogs, tutorials and more
Work closely with engineering, product, and support teams to ensure the quality, discoverability, and accuracy of the content you create and develop

Start by forking a project from teammates or from the largest community of visualization experts and data practitioners (scientists, analysts, developers). Bring your data in from spreadsheets or database connectors. Use components or write custom code along any JavaScript library. Observable lets you work with your data however you want.

As one of our Technical Writers, you’ll help lead our community in understanding Observable’s core concepts while they learn techniques for creating amazing visualizations. Observable is continuously improving on the user experience to enhance the way data insights are communicated. We need an experienced Technical Writer to take a deep look at how our product functions and effectively communicate the power of Observable through technical documentation, tutorials, blogs and other content to our community and users.

The type of work you’d do:

Own the end to end design, development, iteration and process around documentation at Observable.
Learn all the ways to explore, create visualizations and play with data on the Observable platform and communicate the information in a way that is engaging and understood by users.
Create and maintain internal and external documentation for technologies and tools used at Observable.
Write, assist with and/ or edit technical content pieces from video scripts, blogs, tutorials and more...
Work closely with engineering, product, and support teams to ensure the quality, discoverability, and accuracy of the content you create and develop.

What we’d love to see you bring:
