CarMax, the way your career should be! I. BRIEF POSITION SUMMARY:
The Sr. Business Systems Analyst (BSA) is responsible for building relationships and processes between business partners and application development/support teams. This role serves as the conduit between the business community and the application development teams. A Sr. BSA understands the Software Development Lifecycle and proactively seeks to improve processes, procedures, tools, and methodology. The Sr. Business Systems Analyst evaluates processes and influences the outcome of multiple strategic projects simultaneously.
The Sr. BSA works with business partners to understand their needs or issues, gathers and documents business requirements and needs, and translates the requirements and processes for the development teams. The Sr. BSA is responsible for anticipating changes and championing I.T. systems and process to align with those changes. The Sr. BSA ensures that application development efforts consistently meet CarMax® business requirements, direction, and standards.
The Sr. BSA is responsible for training and developing BSAs on technical skills such as the appropriate processes, tools, and skills needed in their role. The Sr. BSA is a mentor and provides positive and developmental feedback and capitalizes on teachable moments to grow others.
II. PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Gathers information from the business and I.T. department to develop BA processes and continuously improve the Software Development Lifecycle
- Gathers requirements using interviews, document analysis, requirements workshops, surveys, site visits, business process descriptions, use cases, and business and workflow analysis
- Collaborates with Architects, developers and subject matter experts in establishing the technical approach for solving problems and analyzing the tradeoffs between usability and performance needs
- Evaluates current processes with business users, recommend and champions potential I.T. systems and process changes
- Creates and enhances processes, tools, and output to develop test scenarios for integration and system testing
- Follows the methodology for areas under their responsibility as well as proposing and championing improvements to the methodology
- Creates processes, defines methodology, and documents processes and procedures. Validates business requirements, ensures processes are efficient, output meets the business needs, assesses risk both quantitatively and qualitatively
- Responsible for end user documentation for customers to be able to effectively use system/processes and for I.T. to be able to effectively support the systems
- Identifies system deficiencies post release and recommends system enhancements
- Some coordination of project teams to include outlining, tracking, and monitoring the tasks of small to medium projects.
- Creates project level budgeting and tracks expenditures to budget
- Evaluates the ROI of systems development and enhancements and effectively weighs the financial alternatives involved with various technical solutions and proposals
- Analyzes the automotive/retail industry and competitive position
- Trains and mentors others in the gathering and documenting of functional or system specifications
III. QUALIFICATIONS:
- Advanced ability to analyze business processes in partnership with the business and technical teams
- Understands and can utilize various requirements gathering techniques to gather and clarify business and systems needs
- Ability to understand and implement data analytics requirements into the processes
- Able to identify and document system deficiencies and recommends solutions
- Able to compare and contrast alternative approaches to meet business objectives while
- Excellent communication skills to include but not limited to verbal and written communication, delivering organized presentations, able to tailor message to the audience, and facilitate group discussions with diplomacy and seek diverse opinions
- Able to build consensus and maintain strong relationships by collaborating, motivating, and influencing business partners, leaders, key stakeholders, and peers to achieve a win-win solution
- Encourages and motivates fellow team members to challenge themselves and make innovative contributions and embrace new ideas
- Requires strong analytical and organizational skills
- Demonstrated ability to effectively estimate the efforts of others and the impact required to accomplish requested tasks/projects

VI. EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
4 year degree in IT related course of study, preferred
6+ years of Business Systems Analyst experience required
3-5 years experience working effectively with the business community gathering and translating requirements into functional or system specifications
Working knowledge of SQL and database design

- The duties of this position are performed inside a central heat and air-conditioned office building. The noise level in the work environment is moderate.
