Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field is required.
  • One to eight years of relevant experience in aerodynamics, computational fluid dynamics, or flight vehicle design is required, commensurate with role level.
  • Working knowledge of aerodynamic fundamentals, including lift and drag prediction, stability and control, boundary layer behavior, and compressibility effects is required.
  • Hands-on experience with computational fluid dynamics software such as Fluent, STAR-CCM+, OpenFOAM, or CFD++, or aerodynamic prediction tools such as AVL, XFOIL, Missile DATCOM, or Digital DATCOM is required.
  • Proficiency in a scripting or programming language such as Python or MATLAB for data analysis and automation is required.

Responsibilities
  • Perform aerodynamic analysis of unmanned aircraft systems airframes, including lift, drag, stability, and control derivatives, using computational fluid dynamics tools such as ANSYS Fluent, STAR-CCM+, and OpenFOAM, and panel or vortex-lattice methods such as AVL, XFLR5, and Tornado.
  • Develop and maintain aerodynamic databases and six-degree-of-freedom simulation inputs to support flight dynamics and controls modeling.
  • Define, allocate, and verify aerodynamic performance requirements at the vehicle and subsystem levels, ensuring traceability through design reviews.
  • Support wind tunnel test planning, execution, data reduction, and correlation with computational predictions.
  • Conduct design verification activities through analysis, simulation, and testing to substantiate compliance with aerodynamic and performance requirements.
  • Evaluate airflow characteristics around airframes, control surfaces, propulsion integration points, and external stores or payloads.
  • Collaborate with structures and propulsion teams on aerostructural interactions, loads development, and aeropropulsive integration.
  • Support vehicle configuration trade studies, including planform, control-surface sizing, and stability margins.
  • Generate technical reports, analysis memoranda, and presentations to communicate findings to internal stakeholders and customers.
  • Participate in preliminary and critical design reviews and provide aerodynamic technical input and risk assessments.
  • Support flight-test planning and post-flight data analysis to validate aerodynamic predictions.
  • Contribute to developing and improving internal aerodynamic analysis tools, workflows, and best practices.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience with unmanned aircraft systems or small-aircraft aerodynamic design and integration.
  • Experience with wind-tunnel testing and data reduction.
  • Familiarity with six-degree-of-freedom flight-dynamics simulation and vehicle stability and control analysis.
  • Experience with mesh-generation tools such as Pointwise, ANSA, or ICEM CFD.
  • Knowledge of aerostructural or aeropropulsive coupling analysis.
  • Exposure to flight-test data analysis and correlation with pre-flight predictions.

Heven AeroTech launches US manufacturing network with 56,000 sq ft East Coast facility

Heven AeroTech has opened a 56,000-square-foot manufacturing facility in Winchester, Virginia, marking the company's first East Coast production site for hydrogen-powered drones. The Sterling, Virginia-based company is building a multi-site national manufacturing network to scale production of its unmanned aerial systems beyond its existing Columbia River Gorge facility. The Virginia site will serve as a blueprint for additional facilities nationwide, each featuring hydrogen propulsion manufacturing capabilities. The company stood up the East Coast facility within 90 days and plans to create hundreds of jobs as the network expands. Beyond producing the Defence Innovation Unit Blue UAS Select Z1 hydrogen-powered drone, the facility will establish manufacturing processes and supply chain infrastructure for long-term American-made UAS production. Heven AeroTech has secured a Basic Ordering Agreement (BOA) with the U.S. Army Contracting Command - Redstone Arsenal for its Z1 hydrogen-powered unmanned aircraft system and supporting hydrogen generation systems. Hydrogen-powered Z1 enters Army acquisition pipeline. Effective January 2026, the BOA establishes a streamlined contract vehicle for Army units to acquire the Z1 and associated hydrogen infrastructure through the U.S. Army UAS Project Office. The agreement leverages the Z1's status as a Blue UAS Select platform, aligning the system with Department of Defense requirements for secure, domestically aligned unmanned aircraft. "This agreement represents an important step in reducing procurement friction for Army units seeking advanced UAS capabilities," said Michael Buscher, Heven AeroTech President of U.S. Operations. "Hydrogen-powered systems offer extended endurance, logistical flexibility, and reduced dependency on traditional fuel and battery supply chains." Focus on long-endurance UAS operations.
