Requirements
  • Basic computer skills are required.
  • Interpersonal skills, including customer relations, grammar, reading, and organizational skills, are required.
  • Ability to adapt to new procedures is required.
  • A degree from an accredited school of nursing is required.
  • Current certification as a licensed practical nurse with the Alabama Board of Nursing is required.
  • The employee must pursue continuing education meeting the 24 hours required per two-year period by the Alabama Board of Nursing.
  • The employee must be able to walk, stand, stoop, lift, balance, sit, kneel, hear, reach, pull, talk, see, turn, carry, push, handle, and write.
  • The position requires reaching above the head, pushing and pulling 5 pounds, lifting and carrying up to 15 pounds, and lifting from floor to waist level.
Responsibilities
  • Assist the provider with the daily clinical operations of the assigned clinic.
  • Provide patient care and perform routine technical clinical duties under the direction of the clinic provider.
  • Perform radiographic procedures under the administrative supervision of a licensed physician.
  • Serve as the first point of contact for patients, other doctors, and business or professional contacts.
  • Manage the patient check-in process and answer and relay incoming and outgoing telephone calls.
  • Follow all applicable regulatory requirements and governing practices.
  • Attend work as scheduled and complete responsibilities according to established guidelines and protocols.
  • Maintain confidentiality of patients’ medical conditions, personal problems, and medical records.
  • Prepare patients for the provider and assist the provider in exam rooms.
  • Obtain vital signs.
  • Administer oral and injectable medications.
  • Collect and sterilize equipment and clean rooms after patient procedures.
  • Collect urine, blood, and other specimens for laboratory testing.
  • Keep exam and drug rooms clean and stocked with supplies.
  • Assist with referrals for diagnostic testing, precertifications, and care outside the clinics.
  • Schedule special appointments and hospital admissions.
  • Administer vision and hearing tests.
  • Call patients about reports, answer questions, and provide instructions.
  • Perform waived tests, including strep, flu, pregnancy, and blood glucose tests.
  • Maintain records, vital statistics, and pertinent data.
  • Perform electrocardiograms.
  • Assist other clinics as needed.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

  • Knowledge of prior electronic medical record systems is preferred but not required.
