Requirements
  • Strong oral and written communication skills with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Excellent advocacy skills.
  • Spatial analysis, including creating maps with ArcGIS or similar software.
  • Statistical analysis using SPSS, R, SAS, or similar software, including qualitative and quantitative research analyses.
  • Experience with data visualization using R and Adobe Illustrator.
  • A valid driver's license is required at the start of the appointment.
  • A Master's Degree in a scientific discipline and one year of experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must be able to travel; some evenings and weekends may be required.
Responsibilities
  • Carry out research within the scope of established study protocols and adhere to human-subjects regulations.
  • Develop criteria for admission of study subjects based on project goals and objectives.
  • Determine potential funding sources and prospective partnerships.
  • Evaluate the feasibility of potential projects by analyzing staffing needs, resource requirements, financial costs, and planned capacity.
  • Negotiate contracts or changes with funders, consultants, and service providers.
  • Develop original Institutional Review Board submissions, collaborate on major revisions, contribute to scientific protocols, and implement changes.
  • Develop forms, questionnaires, research techniques, and procedures manuals for data collection and coding.
  • Document and transmit study data, ensuring report forms are accurately and timely completed at each site.
  • Develop, manage, and organize databases and multi-site studies, and coordinate among the University, non-Yale collaborators, the Institutional Review Board, and funding sources.
  • Perform spatial mapping and descriptive and multivariate statistical data analyses using computer software.
  • Design and implement quality-control measures for accurate data collection and processing.
  • Contribute original analysis to written reports, abstracts, and manuscripts.
  • Help organize the New Horizons in Conservation and other research convenings.
  • Help provide new content for and update the lab website and maintain it.
  • Help supervise student research assistants.
  • Recommend procedures and protocols under higher-level direction.
  • Investigate, analyze, and reach preliminary scientific conclusions related to research planning.
  • Compile, analyze, and properly present data results.
  • Analyze, develop, and interpret scientific results and maintain clear documentation.
  • Prepare scientific reports and papers for research proposals and published reports.
  • Perform independent research and laboratory techniques and participate in experimental research planning.
  • Interact with internal contacts, including the principal investigator, research assistants, graduate students, safety officers, and animal-care personnel, to evaluate research results and support safe laboratory operations.
  • Interact with external researchers and biotechnology and reagent-company staff regarding research methods and product developments.
Desired Qualifications
  • A master's or doctorate in Environmental Studies, Environmental Sciences, Environmental Management, Conservation, Biology, Geography, Environmental Policy, Environmental Justice, Urban Planning, Industrial Ecology, or Public Health is strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of and experience with community-based engagement and research, including developing relationships with diverse constituents.
  • Ability to manage multiple complex processes and projects and experience with budgets.
  • High proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SPSS, ArcGIS, R, Adobe Illustrator, and other web-based tools.
